new owner of this wagon been sitting for 10 + years, needed a fuel pump. Fixed that
Runs but not getting any power. In park i can rev it up it sounds fine, put it in drive hardly have any power. Kind of like its not running on all 8 in gear, any ideas?

Might check for a vacuum leak. Maybe pull the plugs and check their condition.
If it was not running on 8 then it would be thumping and missing like crazy.
Maybe a transmission problem? Check the fluids after warming it up on level ground and putting it through all the gears.

If you've got a vacuum gauge tester or dash mounted, this is a good site with reading the engine. Click on the green Scenario buttons for a live demo:

I have one in my wagon. I wouldn't buy a car that didn't have it in the option list. Broncos had them.

I say it probably the cat converter. The 93 Roadie I just totaled acted the same way, I changed everything then decided to check the cat, pulled the exhaust that follows it and it was just as quiet with no pipes and muffler as it was with them. So i gutted it out and WHOA BOY, hang on, it was like I dropped in a built up motor. More then likely the cat is original 1984 equipment and needs replaced.

Yah X2 on the cat too. I just had mine yanked and replaced with a straight pipe.
It certainly made a difference, but I can't say that the old one was "robbing" the engine of making real power.

Agreed Andy, My 92, I gutted it and was hoping for the same power gains I got from the 93, but it didn't do anything for increase in power, but it did improve the exhaust note and make the exhaust stink like its burning rich. Now that Thrush Ultra Welded muffler can talk to ya, especially once I cut the resonator off the tail.

Yah the exhaust tone opened way up on mine.

And I think I got a couple more mph on the top end. :dancing:
The reason it made it difference on my engine is that my new cam is a dual pattern 264/274, so the exhaust end is opened up and responds well to flow improvements.

fuel filter is another good place to check. from 84 it will be a good idea to change it out anyway. its just in front of the right rear tire. takes about 20 mins to change once you get your long needle nose in there to pop the clips out.

Wasnt the Cat after all, it was the little linkage near the efi that connects to the Transmission. It had good power the other day, but when driving it wouldnt switch gears, so pulled into a transmission shop, ( the guy used to Have one) jumped in, put it in drive, then reverse, then poped the hood took off the air cleaner and said, theres your problem, reconnected put a little grommet on to hold it and said have fun and enjoy it. No Charge!
So thats why it would run good in park, but in drive had no power.
    Front right caliper install tomorrow.
