I should have known there was a coven of wagon lovers out there on the net somewhere. I came here from a search about clamshell Kingswoods and decided I'd stay a while.

Maybe it's finally time for a wagon renaissance in the US... the CTS is gorgeous, and there are rumors that a wagon version of the upcoming Buick Regal may make it to our shores.

My much-loved Subaru Legacy GT Ltd Wagon (turbo and 5-speed manual) seems among the last of its kind... alas they've seen fit to only bring the pretend-SUV Outback version to the US now.

Hey GearheadGeek! Welcome to the forum!

You sure are right about the CTS wagon, and your Subaru is very cool!

Are you still searching for a Kingswood clamshell? I am quite partial to them, and hope you can find a great one! :thumbs2:

'Bout time somebody with a Legacy GT showed up.
It's near the top of my short list for my next DD.
Sort of like the A6 Avant I used to have, only reliable and with more power.

Speaking of power, how do you like the Turbo engine, and how would you compare it to the H-6?

    Welcome!

Marshall/Krash: For my driving style, the 2.5T is better suited than the H6. There's only a couple of rare instances when you notice any turbo lag, and the crazy thing pulls HARD right up to the rev limiter. It gets tolerable highway mileage... My idea of highway driving is low 80s mostly cruise control (because without the cruise control, the car and I agree that best cruise speed is around 92-94 mph, and it's starting to get thirsty there, never mind the law-enforcement issues.) Behaving myself around 80 mph with the AC on, I commonly get 26 mpg on a tank. Around town is more like 21.

The H6 is probably somewhat more refined... the '05 turbos (at least) have a quirk with the throttle software. If you want moderate acceleration, as you're tipping into the pedal the computer is a little jerky when it moves the throttle plate, and you can feel it. It doesn't do it under light throttle, and it doesn't do it if you floor it. Reportedly the high-performance aftermarket ECU software does a good job of eliminating this problem, but so far I've kept my car stock. (Updated ECU software from Subaru didn't cure it, but resetting the ECU from time to time seems to offer temporary improvement.) This is really the ONLY complaint I have about the car after 5 years.

This, by the way, is our 3rd Subaru. We had an '02 WRX Wagon (5-speed) that my partner put 145k miles on in 4 years with lots of fun and zero problems. The dealer offered him stupid money to trade it in, so he couldn't resist an '06 WRX Limited Wagon, also a 5-speed, also trouble-free. Unfortunately the 08+ WRX is way more of a hatch than a wagon, but he's not piling on the miles anymore so we'll keep both our Subie wagons for years.

Fat Tedy: Not quite on the same scale as yours, but our way-back passengers are a 55-lb Bull Terrier named Trudy and a Smooth Fox Terrier named Chloe. :)

I wasn't searching for a Kingswood so much as I was searching for photos of them. I saw a reference to one and the picture that came to mind was the Kingswood's Buick cousin, so I wanted to find a photo of one and found a much bigger diversion. :yahoo:

Welcome GHG. I believe everybody on this site thinks the US is way overdue for a wagon renaissance. My brother told me the other day he heard Cadillac is coming out with a station wagon, (and they're actually calling it a station wagon), with 500 hp and it's going to be available with a 6 spd. Don't know much more about it than that, but it sounds pretty cooll.

Sounds like it's probably the CTS-V Sport Wagon. They've already introduced the V6 (270 hp or 304 hp) version of it, the CTS Sport Wagon, and it's a VERY attractive car, though at least the V6 versions are slushbox-only. A V version of the wagon has been an on-and-off rumor, and I think it's been semi-officially confirmed. I hope it'll have a stick available!

My brother tells me it will definitely be available with a 6 spd manual, however no awd. Rear wheel drive only.
