Just bought a 62 squire wagon with a 6 cyl/170....having the 1 bbl. Holley carb rebuilt today and the car is an automatic...my question is...when I choke the carb, it runs good in idle with half-choke..any lower or higher on the choke...it wants to idle rough and will die...and if I take the choke off all the way, the car won't start at all or keep running at all...suppose I have an air leak somewhere?..where is the first place to look?

I would check all the basic stuff first. Float level, idle air screws, etc. I'd do that just to make sure nothing is dryed out or out of adjustment. But it does sound like you may have a vac. leak. You can spray starting fluid around the base of the carb and around the intake to look for the leak. Idle should speed up when the starting fluid is pulled into the system. Normally on a car that old you need to do a gasket overhaul to get them back in top tuning condition.
Also check vac. lines for cracks, etc.

    I agree with Motion.

You might check over at the Fordsix.com forums. They might have more detailed info, specific to that vintage.
