Hey Andy, Yeah think I can coax MoparJohn to put ah couple dayz in on the Batwagon. I've been fighting ATF buildup on the tailgate for 2 years now. 2 different pans, 3 different gaskets both dry and glued= no help! This time it's an aluminum B+M pan. THE BLOODY THING HANGS LOWER THEN THE CROSS MEMBER, SOOOOO. It's at the machine shop rite now having 2"s horizontally removed from it, then it's off to the welder. I don't trust my welding ability on this one. 'bout ah 36" bead in side and out? Then back to the machine shop and onto the bridgeport to insure it ain't warped. Somebody say old iron waz fun? Whimper whimper, Jer
Finally got my second control arm off today. They're going to get sandblasted, painted and put on the newer Fairmont along with some new shocks.
Put on headers last weekend. Oil catch can kit arrived yesterday. New shocks should be here via FedEx any minute now this morning...... Thinking I may put it up on stands this spring and partially disassemble the understand to treat/coat the frame and suspension. The brine solution they're using in winter is murder on the underside.
I've actually got a project going....... Overhauling the mower deck on my Craftsmen garden tractor.........
I actually washed the 54 wagon and the 35 sedan this week. First time they have both been clean since I'm not sure when. Just received my rear airbag kit for the 54, so now will be looking for a pump and switch and all that other good stuff to make them work. they are only for overload purposes when I am towing. I had a bunch of guys in the car last year going to a garage tour, and the air shocks just weren't enough. It was bottoming on lots of the bumps. I guess I should also check/regrease the front bearings- don't remember when they were last done. ________ CS54 1954 Ford Country Sedan 1935 Ford Sedan
I took the '78 for a nice road trip last weekend to my college. I did put a higher volume oil pump in, since the pressure was getting low. So far it bumped up the pressure up 20% and the engine seems to like it. Other than that, so far I have not done anything than cleaning and some prep work for getting out of storage.
Well, I haven't been around too much lately because I have been doing the body work on my Crown Victoria wagon. Got the few spots of rust cut out and one of my friend's brothers is welding the patches in for me. I have about 60 or so hail dings in the roof and hood that still have to be filled and then I have to block sand the whole car before paint. I also washed and waxed the Parisienne this weekend, and took off all of the wire hubcaps, polished them, and put them back on.
Picked the 700R4 up on Saturday. Ordered a trans-dapt kit from the local supplier (Lordco) and it arrived today. Opened the kit there and sure enough, someone had put their paws on it before me and a critical component was missing. They tell me the soonest they can get one is 10 to 12 weeks . Went on line tonight and funny thing, not only can I have one here in less than a week out of the US, but it will save me 70 dollars or more. What was I thinking wasting time going local . I don't mind supporting local businesses when ever possible but when they are telling you to wait three months and you can order it the next day and have it in one or less it makes you wonder how they stay in business sometimes - yet they are the biggest around (well, next to NAPA who I guess I should call).
BTW, Star Chief, 'Been meaning to compliment you on your '57. 1st. car my wife and I bought after tying the knot waz ah 2 door HT just like your Wagon with the same color combo. Monthly payments of ah whole $32 X24 months back in '62! 'Course Tuition waz $120 ah semester then too and tailgating had ah whole different meaning
Thanks Bbc. Appreciate the kind comments on the old wagoon. We also had a hardtop and loved it. One of those weak moment sales that we've often regretted.
Thanks, Wix, but the car should have been on the road long ago. Parts are expensive but the biggest problem is that G Motors decided to stop manufacturing many parts for the LT1. That not only made them expensive but many are difficult to find and take a long time to get shipped. I love the car and, frankly, love the engine. I just don't like the expense or, especially, the time it's taking to do a simple build on the LT1. I WILL say that I've never seen the inside of higher mile engines that looked anywhere NEAR as good as these LT1's do. My original engine with 130K looks VERY similar to my brand NEW engine. Never seen anything like this in my life of messing with engines. The original engine is super clean and looks brand new. Not a spec of anything resembling sludge anywhere and the original hone marks are still on the cylinder walls. In the end, though, I will have a great running wagon with the new engine with snort and I will keep the numbers matching engine that runs to perfection. Then...if I happen to see something at a show or somewhere with a big block that I Like, I may trade it all for something more old school that fits my experience better. Never know though...I do like this wagon and may keep it for the duration. I may take a trip someday when my wagon is done and come see your beautiful project in person, Wix.
