Good pick for her. Before we bought the wife's '03 Explorer, we had a '96 Blazer LS 4-door with the 4.3. (Had a 4.3 in a '93 Astro van as well) Looks real clean. The only thing I might caution about with the 2-door Blazer is the handling in some situations. Due to the short wheelbase, a sudden lane change maneuver may be cause for alarm. Could be real twitchy and a cause for alarm if you're not ready for it.........

Thanks for the kind comments guys. It sure is fun - way more than the prior one with the V-8 swap because it had zero options so it was like riding a skateboard wtih a motor on it. Okay, that was fun too, but we've gotten used to the nice little things in cars like a radio you can hear over the engine, and actually being able to talk to each other while driving. I know, what's with that? But heck, she's still my bride.

KK, we know of what you speak. It was a real quick learning curve on the first one for sure. This thing will be "interesting" on slick roads until we reaquaint ourselves with the short wheel base thing again. It's been quite a while and our driving habits have changed.

Fox, you are right about that fuel gauge. Our Astro van had the same engine and you'd be trundling along nicely down the highway and all of a sudden the low fuel light would come on and it seemed like just minutes after you'd confirmed the gauge was at 3/4. I'd forgotten that. Now that you bring it up I need to make sure we figure this one out before we get caught.

A fellow up the street, same age bracket as me, had one at the same time we had our first one and he sold his just after we did ours, both buying Trail Blazers. I thought his eyes were going to fall out of his head today as he and his wife drove past . I know he loved it and she even more so. I suspect this may have created a need for them to fill.

Funny how I needed to do a bunch of errands today all of a sudden. Got in three before SHE caught me heading out for the fourth.

I still cannot believe how cherry this thing is. With a good polish it will shine like new.

Yep, Rev, with this chore taken care of I can refocus on the Chevelle for a few more weeks, then the '57 gets its turn. Of course I may be tied up with the acquisition of a Corvair or Vega - but I'm still in the "I really need them to be fulfilled dear" mode.

The wife overheard me telling the neighbour that I wasn't going to lower it quite yet as she liked the height and when I came back in she asked how much effort is involved in lowering it. She didn't say no, so hopefully after he little foray into the use of that word she has forgotten all about it (fat chance of that happening).

She must like it - she told me to go ahead and order my overdrive tranny for the '57 wagon, which I did. It will be ready for pick up Saturday. AND, it just happens to be about ten blocks from where that '66 Corvair is parked - what a coincidence. Good thing she doesn't know that:162:

With the new rear diff and tranny in the old wagon it is going to be a whole different ride this summer.

Yeah, Rev, the 700 makes the most sense, so that's what we got. Adaptor kit available at Lordco so it is on its way as well. Thought about the 200 and ease of bolt up but it doesn't have the same strength I need for towing - otherwise I'd of gone with a built one of those.

Years back a good US Marine freind of mine had a 2 door Blazer with the 2.8 liter engine. It had well over 100,000 miles and one day the oil light came on. So he buys a new engine. Of course I showed up at the house when all the hard work was done. He's chatting away and mentioned that he didn't discover until the engine was out and the new one was in that the oil pressure sending unit had failed. He discovered that when he tried to reuse it and the oil light came on on the new engine. Way too funny for me but he was not amused.:rofl2:
