Greetings! My name is Ed. I'd just introduced myself over at classicoldsmobile forums and someone pointed me this way, which is great cause I think I identify more as a wagon lover than an Olds lover...mine just happens to have that awesome lil' rocket ship on the grille. I'm copy/pasting much of this from my intro there, because I'm just a lousy human being. Anyway, I'm the proud owner of a 1983 Custom Cruiser. It's been well cared for, though not so much by me...I've only had her for a few months. I'm really trying not to screw it up though. Found her at a nearby Ford dealership and only paid 850. Been my daily driver to work and school and very reliable. All I've put into her so far is an oil change & filter, air filter, and a whole lotta gas. Power locks and windows all round, and they all work. 3-way tailgate works great. Some unfortunately deep rust in mostly hidden places, but the paint is absolutely flawless everywhere else...I'm assuming it's not original. Interior is in incredibly good shape too. Aside from a small rip in the drivers seat and some wear on the 3rd row seat panel, it looks minty fresh. The ghettolicious led lamps stuck above the speedo are because the dash lamps for the speedo don't work. Also not reporting for duty are the rear defroster, cruise control (worked the day I drove her home, but not since), and the AM part of the AM/FM stereo. The mechanical electric clock "works", but doesn't keep correct time. It just ticks really, really, really, really loudly and annoyingly. I wanted to pull a fuse just to shut it the hell up but I guess it shares a fuse with the cigarette lighter...which I need for things like ghettolicious led speedo lamps. Has some engine issues that I don't have the smarts or the cheddar to deal with yet, but I'm in love with my wagon and I hope to leave her better than I found her.
very nice car welcome from another rocketeer I drive my Custom Cruiser every day! love that rocket power
Welcome to the forum. There are a couple of us here from ClassicOldmobile.com Love the Custom Cruiser. But then again I have 2. They are great cars to have. Don't be shy about posting threads, posting in others threads or posting pics. We are all about participation.
, thats one sharp looker! Hope you get the minor "itches" worked out, but for now you can unplug the clock at least I see you have some skelitons in your closet, er.. a.. wagon.... Shovels are cheap! Forgot to mention......Great intro Bud.....you gave us pics, your wagon must be for real!
That's a workaround that I never heard of! Welcome aboard Ed. Sounds like you need a factory shop manual to tweak her into pristine shape. She's a beauty.
Thanks for the warm welcome! That's Boner. He usually sits in the 3rd seat, watching my six for cops. My wife actually has a little skeleton sitting on her dash named Benito de la Bones, who has the same job. We're screwed up, yeah. After-holiday sales at those temporary Halloween stores rock. I'm sure having a skeleton in my car is a manifestation of my not-so-secret desire to own a hearse. Say, how does this forum feel about hearses? The ultimate wagon, or the anti-wagon? I said before that I was more a wagon fan than an Olds fan, but I must say that I've become a huge fan of Olds wagons in particular. I'd love to one day have a 1st gen Custom Cruiser because I freaking love that clamshell rear door. I'm really into past visions of the future, particularly the 50s through the 80s, and that rear door on the big '70s GM wagons really gets me right there. Hell, I'd love to have a 3rd gen too. My family had a 1993 Roadmaster wagon for a little while after I had moved out. I only got to drive it once but it left a positive (5.7L) impression, and I loved the vista roof! And, it goes without saying, I'd love to have a Vista Cruiser.
There's a few of those here but the owners don't participate much. They come under the catagory of "professional" cars and car based hearses and ambulances have a growing popularity.
to the wagon train, Ed. And Boner. That's a nice looking 83 for sure. Rust is hiding well. I'm a big fan of the 80's B body wagons.
Sounds like you would get along great with my Goth room mate. She has a thing for Hearses. We almost went to look at one but it sold before we got to it.
New member I was just checking out some of the wagon pics here and decided to join and I'm glad I did. This is a great site. I live in Washington and drive a 1983 Chevy Malibu wagon. It's dropped 2 inches in front with 14 inch Appliance mags. It has a V6 but I plan to put in a 350. This is my daily driver. The truck is my other project. It's a 1960 Chevy Apache.
