I'm the owner of a 1967 Ford Ranch Wagon with a 390-4V and I'm living in Essen (Western Germany). Hope the pic of our car can be seen. I've had another Ford Station Wagon in the past - a 1973 Country Squire. I love those full size boats ! We bought this car for pulling our trailer and here is the our problem. There was never a hitch at this car and I'm searching for the original factory fixing points at the car for the hitch. Is there anyone having an idea to get a drawing / sketch / photo of this ? May I can provide you with some informations/things from Germany. Michael
michael just a few weeks ago...i came real close to buying a 67 always liked them...if it had been a 'woodie'...it would be here enjoy the board!!
Michael, I may take you up on your offer for information on Germany. I was born in Wiesbaden, Hesse and we lived in Königstädten and Rüsselsheim. We left when I was little, so I don't know much about it. Anyhow, I'll email you with some questions. In the meantime, welcome. You'll find a lot of help, support and a little bit of madness here.
Michael! Sorry I can't help you with your questions. Is it legal to fix your own trailer hitch? I know in Holland it can only be done if they have already a type registration for it, if not, you lost. Even an original would not be enough! Good luck!
Welcome Michael. Nice to see another classic wagon. Have fun, and yes we do get a little crazy once in a while.
Michael, this site might help you with the Original fastening points for the hitch on your 1967 wagon: http://www.tocmp.com/ You might also try this well-known Hitch company's website: http://www.reeseproducts.com/ and here: http://www.thecampingsource.com/trailer_hitch_page.htm
Welcome Michael. I visit the Ruhrpot often and Essen as well (like 'Zeche Carl' perhaps you know that place) @Senri: lots of people in Holland who import cars from outside the EU will first have the car inspected and registered in Germany (TuV) and after that they only have to register it in Holland (EU laws); in that way there is no problem having an original hitch. So I figure it won't be a problem to have one on Michael's. There are more advantages importing cars like that.
In case you mount a class three hitch you have to drill most of the mounting holes yourself, I think.
Welcome to the site. I never thought mush about hitches till I saw the one on my one Olds wagon. the thing mounts to the frame in a few different spots. I would suggest youget the best one you can that does this.
I have a class three hitch on my Caprice wagon and it's bolted to the frame in 4 location and to the rear bumper on 6 locations. All the frame holes have to be drilled. On my company Caprice wagon I have a class 2 hitch it's only bolted to the bumper brackets.
To all supporting station wagoners: Hitch is fixed with the same bolts and position, which are used for the bumper bracket to the frame. I slipped the hitch side brackets between bumper bracket and frame rails. And the best thing: the german TÜV said: OK ! In four weeks I'll get back my 390-4V engine from the rebuild. Engine was unopened since it was put into the car in March 1967. Resulting in some wear for sure. Exhaust valves had a rough surface and they didn't close correctly anymore. Additional there was some compression loss due to wear in the cylinder area. From 315 HP there were maybe 250 available But with the blueprinting, 0,020 overbore, new compcam, Edelbrock intake, 7 qt oil pan, a.s.o. we'll have back a little bit more than 315 HP. Later I'll add a pic with our trailer. Enjoy your stations Michael
