My 89 Colony Park rides more like a wagon of the two wheeled variety. In comparison i have a very well cared for 89 TownCar Signature Series, that rides like a dream.

When i compare part numbers for suspension components, almost everything is the same except for the springs. The shock absorbers are the same part number for the Colony Park and the Towncar, but the springs are different part numbers.

Does anyone know how to tell if the TownCar springs will be too soft for the wagon. I guess im looking for spring rates since the wagon is about 200lbs heavier than the Lincoln.

I just know where the tech info is:

This is a local Spring shop serving mostly Rural and commercial. Check the different parts menus. They give you torque specs, manufacturers' names and they offer the real hard stuff to find:

A really good thread on coil springs:
    http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/suspension-chassis/398481-thinking-about-taking-coil.html

You're gonna probably need the PVC Coil Insulators too. My 1979 Ford Factory manual shows the Spring parts in Ford's 5000 to 5999 series.

This guy seems to have NOS insulators, which are a major PITA to find. The files are PDF format, so right-click and Save Target As...

Especially the 5000 - 5999 section, because he shows some:
Insulator Part Number E9SZ 5493 B is for a 1989 TBird, but there are lots more. The top ones are different from the bottom ones.
    http://www.spacecoastshelby.com/nos.html

    Front Spring is P/N 5310, which for a 1989 would look like E9SZ-5310 or maybe E6 (1986)?

Rear Spring part series is also in the same 5000-5999, my book shows the rear spring as a 5560 for the bigger models (Lincoln, TBirds, etc.)
In theory, yours would be E9SZ-5560, then maybe a suffix for LH or RH, if the gas tank is in one of the fenders and not under the car.

My 80 Colony rode pritty much like you described when I got it. Does your Colony have a rear sway bar? If no I'd get one, your ride quality will be a nite and day differance. Mine did not so I got one from a ex-police car. A few months after that I installed rear springs from a ex-police car (heavier spring rate) and for a big car as it is the handeling was great on windy highways and the wagon did ride just like a Lincoln. My wag had factory 14" rims also, I changed them to 15"s rite way and that improved the ride instantly:yup:

PS, When I had my Colony, the wreakers were still plentiful for parts such as ex-cop cars and such..you may need to go with new parts.

Tedy, did you also replace the shocks also or just add the sway bar?

I really think to get the ride i want, im going to go with the TownCar Variable rate rear Springs which have a 16.5" free height, but only collapse to 12" Where the Wagon Springs have a free height of 17.04 and collapse to 11" when loaded. And the standard Wagon front springs. All from Either Moog or AC Delco. or i may go with duralast since Moog makes those.

That with either Gabriel or KYB shocks should give the OG lean (low in the rear) that i like, plus decent ride and handling.

My wagon came with the auto level rear end and im going to try and put that back into service also, which would help me out with the softer Lincoln springs.

    All chime in.

We use these guys for any custom spring applications we are needing. They have all the factory tech info on just about any spring ever made. We just supply them with ride height requirements and ride quality, and they do the rest.
