I'm debating which way to go on my 64 rambler classic...nice clean driver,Keep the 6 cyl,the moldings the door handles and such.OR...Big wheels, air bags, two tone and a chevy motor.I't a fun car either way but I wanted some outside opinions.Dae p.s. sorry about the lousy pic,but its COLD.

I'm gettin some kind of wacky error on the pic. Thanks for the link.I have a 1962 283 and powergide sitting in the garage.A 10 bolt is the right width,The front suspension is the only part I'm clueless on.Its a s.l.a.but with a short strut/spring combo.I can rebuild it ,but lower it?

Do it the way you want.I guess the original motor and trans, rearend would be hard to replace. I would rebuild the 283 you have put a 2004R or 7004R behind it and a chev rear. I know a guy built a 283 and put 305 heads on it and it screamed.

There's upsides and downsides to both options.

You're not alone. I get Auto Restorer Magazine and the October issue had letters from folks that went on and on about three on the tree shifters and how they loved them and which ones were best etc. etc. By my count the Ramblers scored pretty high on the satisfaction of smooth shifting. However, some like the 49/50 Fords but American Motors were pretty much favored as I read it. The Chevys/Buicks were considered pretty crappy but the Chryslers pre-1948 were highly thought of.

I agree with you and TBird. How could you go to a Drive-in movie with the Floor Shift in the way? No snuggling? What's the point?

My last car was an early sixties style kustom(but not a wagon)I'm temped to do the same here.I was thinking a semi gloss burgandy body w/a silver 'flake roof.Low on crome reverse wheels.I had a 50 buick sedanette(fastback)that was flat black w/red wheels.KOOL.Dave

The six is rebuilt, but needs a tune-up.My goal is to have it at our autorama(it has a tradtional style show in the basement).leaving the six makes that a better chance.I'm going to start striping and cleanibg this weekend.Pics to follow.Dave
