    Hi All

I have always owned a wagon. I've had a couple of Pintos including a Bobcat and 3 Taurus including a Sable. My current is a 2002 Sable. Best wagon of the lot. I can't believe Ford stopped making them. Impressive acceleration and remarkable mileage for a large vehicle.
Can anyone suggest a wagon that even comes close in terms of interior space, performance, and cost?

    Thanks,

    OCB

I don't think I've ever seen one. Really. Welcome aboard. When you say 'cost', do you mean price or 'operating cost'.

I mean purchase price. Both of my Pintos were neat cars. my '74 Pinto had the fake wood treatment and very useful roof racks

Ah yes, the Villager option. Right. I just looked in our gallery and I can't find a Sable - that's a Mercury, right?

:Welcome:OCB. You've had a bunch of nice wagons. Sables are quite nice. A bit nicer than the Taurus.

Ah, Pinto's and Bobcats. They are becoming more popular.

:Welcome:to the wagon train, OCB. Your question begs more explanation. Most of us like the older iron and the quality and nostalgia that goes with it. If you are speaking of newer wagons with newer engine technology then I would think the Taurus or Sable may be hard to beat price wise with the parameters you list.

Welcome to the forum, OCB. I've always liked the 2000 - 2005 Sable wagons. The LS with the DOHC 3.0 is a real nice unit......

    Hello from CNJ...
As for cheap wagons with similar functionality, a few years back (say 10 or so) you would have went for a late 60's or early 70's wagon. Great performance, and they were relatively cheap. Now they have skyrocketed in price, out of my range. Thankfully I already have mine.
Also, the 80's wagons are utilitarian with a good bit of performance, and easliy upgradeable. Not to knowledgable about ford, but I know a little bit about the gm wagons of the 80's. I'd suppose the V8 ford wagons of the 80's were good performers considering they have 302s. And if that isn't enough, they can fairly easily be made much faster...

    Welcome

Welcome to the forum OCB. Been here awhile but don't post to much. I also have a Taurus Wagon, a 96, and find it great for a D.D.
Rev, when I went looking for a wagon to use as a D.D. I was also looking for either a Taurus/Sable or an Escort, and found that within the same years, they both cost about the same to buy. The Escort may be a bit cheaper to operate, but the Taurus is soooo much roomier and more comfortable on a long drive. I looked at both and picked up the first one that was in my budget, that was not trashed out, and it was the Taurus. Would have been happy with either at the time, but glad I got the Taurus.
