I picked up one of those cheapie 'collector's versions with all 4 Ocean flicks, including the original with Frank, Sammy, Dean, Lawford, etc. The second series 11, 12, 13 are fine movies, but the first one is low-tech, and has the right 'team'. None had Vegas-flagging criminals, a team that knew each other's depth of loyalty, and just enough cloak-and-dagger to keep you wanting the next scene. The remake was too slick, under-teched for today's capers, and formula solutions, except for the gymnast. 12 was the better of the 3 remakes, IMHO.
My wife picked up the Austin Powers set. She loves the guy! I'm sitting there translating all the innuendo phrases and she's laughing her touche off at my spanglish and the flick at the same time! How may ways are there to say 'wang' and Shagfest in Spanish?
Oh yeah, and I picked up McQueen's Bullit flick too for $10 with the extra info materials. What a car chase! I saw it when it first came out in the theaters, but it was great to watch it again. Excellent interviews. Now I have to get 'Gone in 60 seconds' with Eleanor. I can buy a lot of good movies for $50 bucks a month cable fees (HD is even more). Besides I don't have to listen to all the political bafflegab.
Yeah, I've got that one. Great movie. And one of Bronson's really early flicks with a great chase scene in Lola. My wife hates it because her name is often changed to Lola, Lolita or Lolys. The Lola in that movie is young, blonde and mercenary.
The original is the best. Can't beat the Rat Pack. I like watching it just to see the cool style of the designs of the day.
On this set, they have a list of movies that they made, some as far back as 1944. I was disappointed that there was no mention of the Bob Hope Road To... movies that some of these guys made with Bob. Those were funny movies.
