I am sorry to read about the loss of your father. At the very least, you got to know him other than just a father. I was 16 when my dad died, I only got to really know him from news paper clips and stories from my mother. I have to say, your write up on your father was one of the best I have read. Very touching.
thank you guys for your kind words. your thoughts and prayers mean so much. And knowing that a lot of you know what im going through and can relate means a lot. - Ian, Jenn and Delaney
Ian....I have no words your Dad and I are the same age I m soo sorry.... anytime...anything...just let me know
Ian, Sorry for your loss. I too have lost loved ones to cancer. Cancer is sometimes so extreme it takes our loved ones before we have had enough time to express are feelings (there's never enough time) I can see the kindness in his eyes in the picture, make sure your children know of this too! The good news is the good memories last forever. Thinking of you and your family in this time. MPJ
Ian, I join all the others in offering you and your family my heartfelt condolences and sympathy. From the picture, I can see the love your Dad had for you and you for him. It is so hard to lose your Dad and even more heartbreaking to watch him go though what I'm sure he did. You have to remember all the wonderful times you had with him and the wisdom he was able to pass along to you and your family. I can tell you, as hard as it may be for you to believe right now, you will feel better after time. You'll never stop missing him, but take my word for it, you will feel better. Grief is a process, probably one of the worst and most heart rendering we humans have to go through, but it is a process that does have its path to help us digest such huge losses. Do know that I'm sure your Dad was so proud of you and whether he was vocal about it or not, loved you and your family very much. I'm sure you enriched his life and felt blessed with your presence in it. Take consolation in that. When my mom died of cancer, it was my feeling that she won the battle. She's in Heaven and enjoying a wonderful existence that we can't even imagine while her horrid cancer cells are now dead and no longer able to do their damage. That made me feel better; I hope it does you. God Bless you and your's Ian. May your father rest in peace. Just a quick addendum regarding your sister. When people go through such a heartbreak, sometimes they may not do what others consider right. I suggest you make no judgements at this time regarding her, except that she's lost her Dad as well and probably not thinking quite right. Give yourself and her some time to get through the tragedy before you attempt to justify or judge her actions. I'm sure your Dad might advise you that way as well. May God bless you and give you strength through this torturous time.
well im back, to an extent anyway. I've been so stressed and been internalizing everything and because of that...now im sick....nice! my wife has been an absolute angel through all this mess. and im so glad my daughter was here. she was a much needed diversion for my stepmother and sister and i could tell they got good moments at the funeral home when they got to hold her. ya know, i hate when people go to a funeral home and say "He/She looks good!" though i understand what they mean...i prefer the "alive" look much better (don't we all?). but to be fair...the funeral director did a marvelous job with my dad... so much so that he looked pre-cancer (sans the aforementioned alive part). which is great as we were able to remember him as the good man he was, not the broken shell of a body he had at the end. my aunt that my uncles and dad haven't spoken to in 17 yrs was there at my dads request. (see thread "thanksgiving reunion") my oldest uncle was nice to her, as were his kids...i came to findout that they were of the same mindset as I. i wish i could say the same about my "not-as-old" uncle and his kids. he took me into the office and gave me an angry 3rd degree. (my family owns the funeral home so no where was off limits). to which i told him that the family dispute was none of my damn business and i want it to remain so...(im pretty pissed he didn't wait till after). he and his kids were very cold to my aunt...so my stepmother and i made sure we were caring...no one deserves that and my dad would have wanted everyone to consol her too. i was solid through this whole thing and i thank everyone for their prayers and kind words and stories of relation. it means so much to us. time to get over whatever i have (cold, flu whatever), and pickup the pieces. im dedicating the TiKi WaGoN in memory of my dad... he loved it and was proud of me when i won at carlisle.
