OK...so...has anyone here ever actually BEEN to Wagon Fest? If so....what can I expect? I mean....is it a show for wagons? A parts swap event? A big drunk? What can I expect to see there and is it worth while? I hear about creating wagon trains to the event, etc but; is it a BIG wagon event? How many wagons show up and what do they do there? I know nothing about it and don't want to make plans and travel all that way just to sit around in a small parking lot tripping over other wagons. Can someone that's been there enlighten me? Thanks!
Hey Fox, Not sure if this is the same Wagonfest you are referring to, but I remember this thread about an event last year, and it made me kinda sad, and kinda mad. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5172&highlight=wagonfest David
Maybe the guys had fun with the demo of that sweet Poncho, or maybe they thought it was a good idea, and ended up regretting it when it was all said and done. Sometimes, when trying to come up with fun events for a big scheduled meet, bad ideas get the go-ahead. But, then again, they may still think this was great fun and a big success. If so, I wouldn't want to be a part of it. David
Ya know, wix...I thank you for that link. If Fred allows that kind of stuff then I want no part of it. I could have had that wagon titled with no problem. When I was in the car lot biz I loved those Poncho 6000 wagons as well as the Buick Century and the Olds Ciera wagons. They are STILL great cars and great runners. I have my eye on one for a DD. I also didn't know that the WF was for B Bodies only. I like seeing all kinds of wagons if I'm going to take the time to travel to a show/swap meet.
From what I understand it is an event for wagon members of the Impala forum. So it is an all GM B-Body event. And that means pretty much just the 91-96's unless I show up. Now I was told it would be ok for the wife to bring her wagon as I am a member there. But Fred didn't want it being advertised to anyone outside the Impala forum. It is his event and I respect that. But I know of a goo amount of wagons around here and it would be great to have an event for all wagons to attend. I do know of the wagon event in Ohio I think for the Station wagon club. I have seen video's and pics from there events and while not huge they had some nice stuff there. But that being said they seem to be more orientated towards restoring than modifying so I am not sure how we would fit in.
Yeah, Stick...it WOULD be nice to have a wagon only (ANY wagon) event. We should sponsor one! I love car shows but the wagons are usually few and far between. If anyone knows of GOOD wagon events I would like to hear about them. And I still think WE should sponsor a wagon event and turn it into THE wagon event. Like a wagon show and swap meet. Man...that would be cool to have.....sponsored buy Station Wagon Forums. Could turn into a money maker as well for the site. There are MANY successful events throughout the country but don't know of any wagon events. We have a great show/swap here 2 times a year in WI and the guy is making big bucks with it. The event just keeps growing and growing.
Well that brings up alot of questions. Like how many people from here would actually attend? We already know we have a great core group, but we also have few that post on a regular basis. The other part would be where to have it? I would say it's possible we could move it around year to year but that brings it's own set of problems. I wonder if we could get a map of where our members are concentrated? Sponsor's might not be hard to get as things like engines and transmissions are the same wether a regular car or wagon. And some companies offer wagon specific parts.
The logistics are not a major problem as I see things. And concessions bring in money. I would be dead set against moving it around. Pick a cheap central location and build from there. Your point about non active members is well taken....and we have a lot of members from the west coast too. Still....I believe it could grow to a tremendous success. I have a lot of promoting experience and know how to draw people. AND....sorry but....do NOT make it a committee run event! I would like to tie this in with a central location idea I have but it would be great to run the show a few years and get it built up and go from there. While I realize that the market for wagons is obviously smaller than for ALL cars I still think it could & would succeed. It would take a little marketing survey though.
I would enjoy such an event... Glad to help or add my 2 cents.. Seems to me the Power Tour deals like Hot Rod promotes are growing ... I for one enjoy driving my car to the events and seeing the sites on the way. Really tired of going to a parking lot and sitting in a lawn chair.. Tim
Well...I like driving to them too, carshop. I would like to do a nation wide search to find all the wagon owners (not as difficult as you may think) and stimulate interest in their wagon ownership. Then go from there. I know I could do it and there are others on here, if interested, that could add more brain and man power. If you have it in one place every year you would begin to draw from all over the country like other events. It would be on their calendar every year. Anyone here interested in conversing about the possibilities? Stef....what's your take? Please consider what you bring to the table.
We had a wagon show in wv but they dropped it cause the mayor sold his car an they didnt have one back...
lots of parks in Pittsburgh to have them. We are close to the new england guys and the ohio/wv guys. we are close to summit racing too.! id be up for an "all wagon fest".
PA isn't central enough I don't think, Ian. And not cheap enough probably either. Again...I would think of MO. It is centrally located, land and property tax is dirt cheap so I imagine you could rent huge fields, some with buildings, for peanuts. Parks wouldn't work for the size of it anyway. Think big for the future.
