Last night, I had to attend a meeting that was about 10 miles from the house. My daily driver is a Taurus X and I only put about 2000 miles a year on the Colony Park. I hadn't had it out for a run in about two months, so I decided I was way overdue to take it for a ride.

Let me tell you something. I wasn't in the car for five minutes before I realized, once again, that I love that wagon. I like it so much better than the Taurus X for any # of reasons.

Yes, I still have to turn the headlights on and off with the switch because it doesn't have automatic ones like the Taurus.

Yes, I have no idea what kind of gas mileage I'm getting because it doesn't have the 24/7 monitor like the Taurus does.

Yes, it only has the AM FM Stereo unlike the fancy smancy sound system the Taurus does.

Yes, I still have to hold the power window switch because it doesn't have the express down driver's window like the Taurus does.

Yes, I still have to move that little day/nite switch on the rear view mirror because it doesn't automatically dim like the Taurus does.

Yes, the tranny only has 4 gears unlike the Taurus' 6.

But I don't care. I still love the Mercury so much more. I love the way it rides so comfortable and plush. The Taurus is awd and doesn't ride near as nice. I love the sound of the 5.0L when I accelerate harder than necessary. I love feeling a V8 under the hood rather than a silly 6 cylinder in the Taurus. I love the way the Colony Park looks. (On the way to the meeting, I had to pick up something at my friend's house, so I pulled up and left it running out front of his house. While waiting for him to answer the door bell, I noticed I turned around to admire the car. I NEVER do that with the Taurus.) I love being able to stretch my right arm across the huge front bench seat as opposed to the buckets, floor shift and console in the Taurus and you know what else I love; being able to steer my long roof around a corner using one finger on the power steering wheel. I don't need to feel the road or have a responsive steering system. Let me float down the highways and byways in my own little world of wagon comfort. A "European Ride"? Hmm, not so much for me, thank you very much.

I've got to take that car out more!!

:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: Does the Taurus have a memo system? If it did, you could have it remind you to drive the real wagon! Or should that be Royal Wagon!:D(y)

Oh wait. You have to hold a button to put the window down???

Mine have to be cranked round and round.

    What? you have four gears?

I have three and thought it was plenty. Six? OMG.

What do you mean silly six? It's at least a bent six.

Mine are all in one row. Inlines rule.

Wish you guys would shut up already. I can't drive my wagon for another five months!
Good post, snoot. We wagon lovers can relate to it big time. I'm in my own world when I drive one of those old V8 wagons down the road. It's a true love affair. :thumbs2:

My T&C has been at the body shop for 3 weeks now, it seems like forever. I have a 69 Charger, which of course I love, but still miss the wagon. It's weird knowing it's not here, were it now belongs.

Hey Datto, it's got the same length roof, which is all that matters.

Come on Silver. There's got to be several dry road sunny days in the winter time. We are up to 5 days this year of cloudy weather.:rofl2:

The dry roads are as bad as the wet roads, TB. The salt blows around like dust....you just don't see it. Believe me. I would be driving it if I could. The engine is coming out soon anyway and building it will be a fun winter project. I want it done and in the car for Spring.

    I hear ya' snooterbuckets.

Got a few good runs in my wagon recently. Finally hit the 500 mile break-in, changed the oil and took it out on the freeway. The launch from 60 - 90 MPH is impressive to say the least and ohhh, that wonderful Quadrajet roar!!!

One thing that I will really want to upgrade is to install intermittent wipers.
My Toyota has spoiled me in the pissy drizzle rain we get here with that one feature.

I also keep finding myself looking back at my wagon to admire it. It just grabs my eye like a pretty girl and I keep looking again and again.

I know the feeling too. For me it's not just the wagon, but any of the older cars. I typically drive a 91 acclaim or a 95 le sabre. Getting into the wagon, my dad's 60 plymouth, or my cutlass is a comforting feeling. My dad's 60 and my wagon are just so easy to drive, and draw attention everywhere. My wagon has also held it's own against some "fast" cars at my high school. Not that I beat on it but sometimes the snot nosed brats deserve to have their jaws dropped. And my cutlass, as slow as she is, is a great feeling. Rides like a couch on rails, that I built, that though it's slow is fun as hell because it corners and has that q-jet sound.

Wish it was 70* and sunny all year long.
Oh, and I wish I got daily dividen checks from the oil cartels; for the wagon and cutlass at least. As I can't afford to drive them daily
