Hey, how ya'll doin? My name is Dwayne and this is my 1980 Datsun 510 wagon. I bought it in September of '08, I'm the third owner and it currently has about 137k original on it. It's a 1952cc, four cylinder, automatic, rear wheel drive, AC (works but needs a belt) and a factory AM/FM radio that refuses to die just to spite the Sanyo CD player I'm itching to put in the dash. I've put about 10k on it, have rebuilt the entire front end, replaced the struts and shocks and swapped it's stock 13 inch steel rims and hub caps for 14 inch 1980 280z rims. Car was sold new at Ken's Datsun in OKC and then spent about twenty-seven years in the care of it's original owner in Comanche, OK (who had used it as a fishing wagon since about 1990) before being sold to the second owner in Marlow, OK in 2007. It now resides in Rush Springs, OK. The second owner owned it less than a year before he decided it was too small for his needs (he is about 5'8 and about 350lbs) and too big a project (rotten vacum lines, wore out suspension) and sold it to me. I drive it a couple of days a week. This is how it looked the day I bought it. This is how it looks now. there's a link in my signature with more pics on Car Domain - thanks!
Welcome to the forums! I'm diggin the Datsun, glad to hear it went to an owner that will keep this little guy for years to come.
Love that wagon. Those wheels look very nice on it. What's really nice is Dwayne didn't make us wait for pictures.
I agree Ampy. It's almost like everyday we have a new longroofer come on board. I'm lovin it. Little did we realize how many closet wagon lovers are out there. The more the merrier I always say.
Welcome Kev. I never noticed how Datsun kept to the 60's body style for so long, until now. Neat. It's almost like Ford borrowed some of the styling on the 1978 to 1986 Fox wagons (he admits sheepishly).
first off...thanx to Dat411 for bringin some of his buddys over to visit sharp lil wag ya got there Kev nice wheel addition too !....what are they off of? to our garage...theres beer in the fridge....i think.. ..Foxy might have drank it all.........
WOW! Where to start :2_thumbs_up_-_anima!?! Fat Tedy, love the pooches but especially the Cutlass wagon! That was THE wagon of my 1980s childhood. Classic lines, super reliability and probably the station wagon's last major stand against the mini van invasion - nice! FordWagonNut 1979, '78 was the last year of those huge barges that debuted in the Nixon era and were often powered by monstrous 460 V8s that left many a 305 powered early 1980s Camaro way behind at a stoplight! A high school bud of mine had a brown '76 model (actually his mom's) that would pass anything but a gas station. When we all got girlfriends that thing became a rolling hotel room for the couple laying on a blanket in the cargo area, a make-out bench for the couple on the back bench seat and a waiting area for the impatient, oversexed driver yelling, "C'mon dude! You guys have been back there forever - it's our turn!!". Lots of good memories in those party barges! Snooterbuckets, the classic, understated lines of a late Reagan era Merc powered by the same engine as a 5.0 Mustang of the day. Class, speed, a smooth ride and very near the last year for a rear wheel drive Mercury wagon I think........? Sweet! Silverfox and ampypants, I have no direct experience with the bubble Impalas but I love their lines! Those are the curvy, sexy cars that made folks say, "It's about time those guys in Detroit threw away their rulers!". Those things are freakin' sweet with a set of rims and lowered just a bit but I like 'em even if they're riding high with whitewalls, hubcaps and a blue-haired, feline-loving octogenarian at the wheel. They just look good! Steve-E-D, you have the other Pontiac front end made famous by "Smokey and the Bandit"! My aunt put a couple hundred thousand miles on a four door like that and it never let her down. Those were sharp cars with true Pontiac styling. They were once very common but have now almost disappeared from the American roads. Great cars! Stormin' Norman and tbirdsps, your wagons are the same body, right? You guys have quite a bit of interchangeability with late 1970s/early 1980s Mustangs, don't you? I love the lines on those things and can only imagine the possible performance mods and upgrades made possible by sharing bits with the 'stangs! Stickman, I clicked on your build link - wow! That thing is so clean! My first thought was, "If the Men in Black agency used Olds wagons instead of Ford or Mercedes sedans those wagons would look like this !!!" and the beast of an engine is pure freakin' icing on the cake - SWEET!!! Rev, do ya like FoMoCo much? Nice stuff, man! Love that first year Edsel, the '63 Country Sedan, the '64 Merc, the Falcons and especially the fact that you also gave a good home to the Pinto wagon - awesome, well-rounded collection! Just incredible! I actually bought my Datsun to drive daily while redoing my '64 Fairlane. It's a four door sedan but it was my high school ride from 1987-88, it was the car I honey-mooned in and then I screwed up and traded it off in October of '88. I bought it again in '96 and will never let it go again. You don't have a line on an early five bolt Ford three speed automatic I can jam behind my 260 do you ? datsun411, love the styling on your wagon though I have never, ever seen one in person! you gotta make a trip to http://forum.ratsun.net/index.php - they'll love that thing and they're good folks too! datrod, feelin' the ratsun love !
