We were watching Bing Crosby's White Christmas today, and Holiday Inn on Friday (VCR colour versions), then my wife picked up a Christmas collection with Nat King Cole, Bing, Frank, Perry Como, and even Dean Martin. Her father loves the music, even though he only speaks Spanish, so she wanted to 'test drive' the CDs before sneding them to Monterrey, MX. Kleenex has come in handy, and the snow was adding to the atmosphere. :) ;)

I've got a big collection of VCR movies, but then a friend had a classic movie on DVD, so I went and got a Dual format player/recorder VCR/DVD machine. The best part is the darn thing plays them from anywhere in the world, PAL and North American, and I can program it to display subtitles in 4 more languages and change the close caption features to English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese. All that from a no-name cheapie.:biglaugh: :biglaugh:

You call that snow? That's icing sugar! :D You can still see the roof rack(s). Some people only have one roof rack, eh? ;)

Yeah, I saw the forecast for the Lower Mainland last nite. You guys missed the worst of it. We're at -26C feeling like -35C. But we're going up to -15C and Sunshine!

Now let me see. We had snow here in 2004. Prior to that it was 1994 and early 1995. If we don't look quick it melts. Actually we got better than 5 inches each time. In 2004 we got six inches in two hours and by noon it was gone.

At least someone told me it was snow.:biglaugh:

Back on the 10th of November we had 1/2" of rain. We all went out to see it. It had been 210 days since the last measurable rain.

Speaking of that. Part of the film was made on highway 198 near the Naval Air Station, Lemoore, Ca. I was stationed there at the time. They would lay out white tarps along to road sides to simulate snow and from 2am to about 5 am they'd film. It went on for a week. Not much traffic to snarl in that rural area at that time of the morning but they would film on the west bound lanes and allow traffic to move on the east bound lanes to simulate real traffic which it was. They filmed during the late spring as the fog was really bad there pretty much all winter long. John Candy and the other guy whose name slips my mind must have been miserable dressed in all those heavy winter cloths.

We never got so see anyone and we certainly didn't venture out a those ungodly hours to see as we thought we'd be run off anyway but by that time in the filming the Chrysler LeBaron was pretty much beat. I don't know how they rigged the camera's and such but I think the car was hauled around on a flatbed trailer for most of the filming.

On another interesting note Star Trek 5 and the new Planet of the Apes movies were filmed very near where I live now. The Trona Pinnacles has been a very popular spot for filming as is the Inyokern airport for commercial filming. Saab uses Inyokern pretty often and Lexus did the commercial where one was dropped from a plane (really a crane) while the other car drove down the runway and beat the falling car due to it's "superior" acceleration. If filming takes place in the daylight hours they are always done on Sunday's as the airport is closed to commercial traffic.

My sister was an extra in the Aviator, with parts of it being filmed in Montreal.
