I took my son to the baseball field the other day to practice ajd when we got back and pulled into the garage it smelled likes something was burning. I thought maybe the small oil leak may of gotten bigger. So i checked the fliuds in the wagon, everything was good, alittle bit down on antifreeze which is the usual ajd a tiny bit down on brake fluid but not much at all. Took the car for a ride today, got back ajd it smelled like something was burni g again. Took the big flashlight out and no noticeable leaks in the engine bay. Went around the car and noticed a wet tire mark on the ground. I checked the right rear passenger wheel and noticed the entire wheel well was wet. I think its brake fluid but still wanted to post the videos to get more opinions. Edit, says the up!oaded file does not have an allowed extension. See pics instead. Thanks

It can be either a bad wheel cylinder or a bad axle seal. You need to pull the drum to determine which. I'm leaning toward and axle seal since your brake fluid wasn't down much. Actually, you should be able to tell by the smell.

If the smell is a sickly rubbery smell, it's brake fluid. If it's a horrible, pungent smell, it's gear oil.

Regardless of which it is, you will end up having to replace your rear brakes shoes as well. They will be soaked. Also the wheel cylinders should be inspected at the same time and will probably need replacement as well. If you can't do the work yourself, take it to a good shop. I don't recommend franchise places as they always try to upsell you by "recommending" things you don't really need.

It definitely smells like rubber and yes i watched some videos that all said to replace the shoes. New to this area but got some recommendations for a small mom and pop shop. i never take my cars to the dealerships, even when i buy my wife a new Hyundai every 10-14 years, i do the negotiating over email then just pick it up. Did find a dealership here in NC that helped us when we were in a jam but that doesnt happen often. Thanks for the replys, appreciate it.

The smell is unmistakable. I’ve thrown out entire sets of clothing because I got just a little bit of differential fluid on them.
