^^^ Yes, there was even a magazine specifically for funeral home management people back in 1958. Magazines have taken a big hit in the last 10 - 20 years, mostly due to the internet, I would say.

 

This shows me that California's housing situation was crazy even back 60+ years ago.

 

The tremendous growth of the '60's and '70's, with entire new towns seemingly popping up overnight has waned a bit, but there's still a lot of land left. You just have to be willing to drive a bit farther to get to a big town. But these days, with fast internet so readily available, it's not so important from a job perspective. And once 'small towns', a lot of them have become medium-sized cities all on their own. If I was in a better financial shape, I'd move back down south, maybe to the Pismo Beach / Morro Bay area. I'd never go back to where I grew up though - west Los Angeles. Too crowded.

 

I left the Navy on September 2nd, '89; when I went back to San Diego for a visit in July '91, all the once-empty land North and East of Miramar was all built up. California waited for no one back then.
