Nice lookin pooch palace you found Norm. Our mutt is indoors during the winter, only out long enuff to do his duties, or if he sneaks past ya when you open the door and marks the whole neighborhood for a few hours. My 2nd oldest and I spent a few hours one day 2 summers ago and built him a Lean-Two style house out of scrap lumber. Little fella is only 14 lbs and drags that 85 lb castle all over the yard. He is all muscle, what part of him that isn't made up of piss and wind, that is.

For you Northerners you need a dog house with a wind break in it. Offset door as in the one Norm posted but then the dog has to the back and around another wall. All walls, floor and cealing insulated.
My two GSDs are in a Kennel run that is attached to my garage. The garage has a dog door into the garage where there are two dog houses in a 4x8 area. I stuff em with straw for the winter and the dogs burrow in.
For outside dogs the temperature isn't as importand as being dry and draft free.
    Another option

Almost sounds like a 'Dog's Life' is pretty good. No mortgage, free food, heat and lights all paid for, free rides, best seats in the car... :biglaugh:

My dogs are outside long enough to take care of business and then they bark right away to come in. My chihuahua is on my lap like always, my Lab mix is on the couch next to me and my Jack is sitting in his crate a few feet from me. If I built a dog house it would be vacant.

The dog houses are a must with the two GSDs. Nothing on the planet sheds like them and having spent the last 35 + with mostly terriers (no shed or very little depending on the breed) the dog hair stays outside as per the wife. ;)
