First post: Have 71 Chrysler Town & Country 440. Previous owner in CA figured he didn't need antifreeze. A/C apparently strong, froze heater core. Have yet to pull dash or whatever is needed to remove damaged core. What is needed to reach heater core? Is there a source for correct unit or suitable substitute? Please post reply or respond to henderson.blair@yahoo.com. Thanks!
71 First off, welcome!!! Got any pics??? The heater/ A/C is it regular or Auto-Temp? you'll need to know. Try Murray Park for parts.I'll try and get a web/phone. Also, this is a GREAT site, but www.cbodydrydock.com is a great resource/form you should try also. MPJ
Thank you, thank you It's not an AutoTemp, the few pic's I have are 4x6 glossies, but I'll try scanning. I actually have a build sheet and owner's manual in the car. I tried Rock Auto. I did find another site with many heater cores, but I haven't pulled the core so don't know if any are close. A Murray's counter person quoted $34 about ten years ago, but now they can't look it up that far back. Thanks for the DryDock link, especially the torsion bar article - one is broken. I was thinking of waiting and getting an air suspension. It drives and rides nice anyway, even on mishmash old tires. By the way, what modern tires should I get? Most sites don't list 71's. One antique site listed the appropriate tires as "L 84-15." Another one I can't seem to get back to said P205/75-15 (I think). I believe it now has P225/75-15's. I filled up that death trap fender tank (it's already been hit) and added StaBil as per directions - sixteen years ago. I also ran it a little afterwards. It ran reasonably well then - I think that was thirteen years ago. I'm thinking a tank might fit in the third seat well (it's a two seat). At that time (thirteen years ago) the new battery was completely discharged by my misunderstanding of what was on and what was off for that old 4-way flasher switch. I tried slow and fast charging with not so memorable results. I bought this car, sight unseen, in January of ''89, in California, then drove it back to Ohio. It took from LA to Springfield Missouri to figure out what was holding it down to 40 mph, except in the TX flatlands. The previous owner had bypassed the plugged fuel filter through a valve, which I turned off to keep it from dripping on the alternator. After a gasoline bath and a couple hours in a deserted laundramat that should have blown up the old two-ton wagon had a lot more pep than the Chevy Caprice wagons of the day. Thanks again. I'll work on those pic's. Nice to hear from people right away. On a Fiero site the post I was interested in was a dozen years old with no replies!
