My wife was all for it---at first---then it was explained what all could be done with OnStar, and the like, and then she didn't like that idea anymore... New vehicles with that manner of options package are no longer on our "to buy" lists.
yeah, even used, the first gen on star systems are now useless. they run on analog cell technology and as of a year or so ago, analog is deader than michael jackson. however, the stuff they can do with gen 2 onstar, scares the hell outta me! i dont know if any of you caught the new commercial where the police are chasing a black tahoe and they call onstar. the operator says "im flashing the 4 ways on the truck...if you have the right one" (four ways flash) cop concurs....onstar operator shuts down the vehicle. ok, this is awsome for keeping my car where i left it. but....this is bad when technology gets into the wrong hands. if people want your car ...our you...bad enough, the technology is available. i can see people getting car jacked this way. 1.you riding down the highway on the way home from a night out with your wife. 2. van pulls up behind you, you dont really pay attention to it....after all, its a nice night and its just another car. 3. techie criminal in said van behind you gets your onstar signature shuts your car down and unlocks your doors. 4. you are now defenseless. if your lucky they take your car and leave you sitting on the roadside....if your not lucky...well.... this is just one of the arguments i make for having my little buddy and his 5 friends that can run VERY fast.
.....like they dont have buddies? if your the good guy...and you have friends....then doesnt it reason that the bad guys have more friends...?
