Hi all, I'm new here. Can anyone tell me how to get the gastank out of a 65 Plymouth Belvedere II wagon? I have the J bolt out, unscrewed the filler neck from the top filler, axle and leafsprings are out and it just wiggles in place? I can't seem to move it forward. So before I really try to force it I figure I would ask first. Thanks
I just found out that I have to pull the filler neck up and out of the rear quarter and then slide the tank forward into the rear wheel opening. I already have the rear axle and leaf spring out. It's a headache.
The tank is out. What a headache that was. For future reference. The filler tube has to be pulled out of the rear quarter. It's not easy. Undo the 3 screws, try to pry it out enough to spray some WD-40 behind. Let sit and then use a big pair of channel locks and pull it out. Then the tank can move forward into the rear wheel opening.
What I do is spray the lube on, then move the tank up the tube enough to get the lube onto the rubber, then move the tank down enough to grab the filler neck and pull. Just did it twice, in order to put a '76 LTD tank into a '73 Galaxie. Made the move a bit easier by getting the rubber grommet onto the lube before pulling.
