Made some good progress on the Fury's interior refresh this past weekend.

Got the insulation, weatherstripping and carpet installed.

Unwrapped the 85 TD yesterday morning, cleaned it then went for a nice drive. Then on the way home from work today I stopped at the glass shop and ordered a new windshield for it and started pulling interior trim in preparation once I got home. I will also need to have the top trim piece recovered since the mb tex has shrunk and pulled from the pressed moulding.

 

Nice. Always feels good to get the car out after a long hibernation.

Looks great, no matter what the outside looks like once the interior's done just hopping in and going for a cruise gives a car a whole different feel, it was the same when I did the interior in the 7 Litre years ago.

 

Thanks. I agree. The outside is in good shape overall, so this has really brought the car from being alright to pretty nice.

 

Bet it feels real good now, sitting behind the wheel - with all-new upholstery.

 

Oh man, does it ever! The new upholstery is so much more supple the the original. It's incredible how much difference it makes.
And there is also the fact that it makes me feel good knowing that it's much nicer than it was before and, that we did it ourselves.

 

About a month ago, Mother said her car was making an odd sound. I investigated, and I ended up replacing a bunch of stuff:

ATF (16 oz, because of Axle replacement,)
Brake Calipers (x2,)
Brake Fluid in Front (Replaced with Amsoil DOT 3 from 2017 or 2018,)
Brake Hoses (x2,)
Brake Line (x1, Front Driver Side, Copper Line,)
Brake Pads (Ceramic,)
Brake Rotors (Ceramic,)
Front Passenger Axle,
Front Passenger Axle Seal,
Front Passenger Control Arm (thanks both to me damaging the boot, and the ball joint being riveted in,)
Front Sway Bar.

Well, that was about $650 after discounts and buying tools I didn't know I needed. I also over-torqued one out of two sway bar bolt holes that I couldn't fix easily, and that took a while to figure out. I tried copper wire, J.B. Weld, and other things. Father suggested to use a slightly larger bolt, and sand it down, so I did. I didn't get as much torque as the manual asked for, but I got 22 / 35, which is better than 0.

Also, the Wagon sprung a fuel line leak; however, it's only when the car's on. It's a rubber / etc line that expanded, and was only a press fit. It starts near the oil dipstick, and ends just past the oil filter. I put one hose clamp on the front of that line, but then I found the rear of it was also leaking.

 

That's a dangerous proposition, leaking fuel line. Hopefully it will not be any trouble to replace the rubber hose, but make sure you get the fuel injection service hose, even if the engine's carbureted.

 

Got the old dash out and transferred the climate control sensor and duct nozzles to the new dash, plus moved the insulation/sound deadener to the new dash also, it'll be nice to have a dash with no cracks.

I expected a lot of work in order to pull the dash I wasn't disappointed.

I'm glad I've decided to do both the windshield and dash at the same time, even though this car spent it's life until I bought it in soCal there is still some rust in the bottom right corner of the winshield that I'll grind down and weld up once the glass is out.
That's it for today, time for food and caffeine.
One other thing, I had a pleasant surprise when the new windshield which I ordered from my local Speedy Auto Glass cost only $ 165.00 Cad + tax.

 

A brand new set of whitewall radial tires. I had the old tires so long they were flattening out in spots.
