Background: 1967 Ford Country Sedan. We purchased the car about a month ago, at that time the dash had a significant tear in the dash cover. Being cheap and not a show car, I elected to try a "dash cap" from http://www.dashtop.com/ It's a "plastic" cap that fits over the existing dash cover. I ended up purchasing it from Dearborn classics as they had a sale on it, $90. in black. Here is the original cover, after I cut into it with a dremel (cut off wheel) to get rid of the puckered tear, that would hold the top up. SEM paint. I first went with Firethorn red as it matched from the printout sample. But it wasn't even close to what was original and because some of the original (very little) dash cover will show, I wanted a closer match. I thus tried Napa red, that didn't match in the sample but the paint cap did and it ended up being an almost dead on match. You literally cannot see a difference in color. Followed instructions with cleaning and prepping, then used the supplied silicone only around the edges as instructed, then clamped, jamed everything back into place. I had taken out the A-pillar covers to make it easier to install. These went right back in after the cap was put on and helped to secure it. One thing, have an extra tube of silicone. I was glad we did as we needed more. And let it sit a day. Final result: It fits perfectly as far as going on. It doesn't cover every bit and is not good for a show car, but for a driver, I love it. It looks great. Keep in mind that flash from a camera can throw off colors.
That's one awesome looking non-showcar job! I've used the same materials, but I can't tell if yours was repaired. I sure can on mine, but mine doesn't have the mass and rigidity. Outstanding!
I may just have to go that way. I repaired mine a couple of years ago and I'm glad that it wasn't made in to a sticky. The job didn't last so I put a carpet dash cover on it. Those dash caps look very nice. With the very high heat here (up to 118*) I afraid of warpage on one of those caps. So, you'll have to keep us up to date on how it holds up over time. Yours does not look like a cap in the pictures at all. It looks like a new dash.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
WOW, that is just awesome all the away around. If I did not know better, I would have thought it was the original dash pad.
Thanks guys, I am happy with it. As far as holding up, only time will tell. You are not supposed to "glue" it down anywhere but the edges, otherwise it could warp and crack per the instructions. Right now it sits under a Norway maple tree in mid-michigan with a waning sun, so I don't expect any issues yet. Next year when it comes out of storage, it will have a quality outdoor cover, so again, it will not receive direct sunlight except when driven. I will let you guys know, if my opinion changes. I expect to keep the car for quite a while.
