Here you go Grizz. It's rough, but looks like it's all there. Extra parts too. https://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/d/colburn-1957-ford-mercury-turnpike/6846272994.html
That's a long haul from Tennessee to Spokane Washington. So, that was one of the states which allowed quadrupel headlights in '57. If it wasn't that far, a swap for that with the '54 Pontiac wouldn't be bad. Throw in the 400 block which is a bolt-in and he might have a deal. It'd be fair, in any case, despite the Mercury involving more restauration hours than the Pontiac
By 1957, from what I’ve read there were only a few states that had prohibitive laws against quad headlights. I have a Montclair with quads, (sold new in NM) and I thought I had read by May of ‘57 quads were accepted nationally. Not sure. Seems like some cars Chrysler 300 only had quads, unless they did some sort of swap out in states that didn’t allow the 4 headlight set up.
Perehaps, was Chrysler more strategic, in that they offered better deals to government agencies, in order to keep them off their backs about those quad lamps? Don't pay attention to me. It's just another one of those conspiracy theories
Although Bill, there were a few 300s, Imperials and DeSoto cars made with dual headlights. Seems like the quads on those cars outnumber the duals. But they are out there though.
I know Chrysler was out ahead a bit with “1960” style, but, as suggested here they may have had the amber or small light in the bottom. For those few non quad states. Interesting to think about.
Somebody down here in Florida used to show a black and white '57 Turnpike Cruiser 4 door, back about 30 years ago. I'd love to get one, people two blocks from here had a pink and charcoal 2 door sedan for a couple of years, then got a '62 Galaxie 2 door hardtop. There were some spectacular cars around here for the past 57 years.
The only thing about ‘57’s I don’t care for is the way the wheel covers went on. It was like a clip grab to the wheel. After a while they would shake loose. Fortunately I was able to get an extra set, and have used one or two of them. But got it figured out how to keep up on it by making occasional adjustments to the clips. Think they might have been similar in ‘58. Not sure about ‘59. But the ‘60 has never thrown a wheel cover.
Because of Mamie wearing the pants in the family, that must have made Virgil Exner the real president
Now there's a president that I can get behind. Can you imagine the slogans and bumper stickers? "Exner for President..... suddenly, it's 1960!"
Except what do you say for re-election in ‘64? Keeping America in 1960! You know what. That ain’t too bad now that I think about where we went after 1964.
Well if ol Virg was seeking re-election in 64, he could maybe use "downsizing" in 62 as part of his platform and making a "valiant" effort to streamline his government to mimic his success from the bottom up? Maybe the whole "unibody" of government would work...ease of assembly of bills passed and the whole "strength" of his cabinet? The cost savings are there....
Very nicely put Moparfomco man. Sadly, despite the Valiant efforts of many of us, the Baracuda’s, and Gremlins have taken over the government. What a Hornet’s nest. No longer are we the Ambassadors of good will. We certainly have darted off path. We must sound the Coronets! Not like Monaco, unlike Phoenix we are the victims of Imperial Fiats.
