I have a 1991 Cavalier Wagon. It has a somewhat built 3.1 liter 60 degree V6, with a 5-speed swapped in for fun, with a 2-way LSD, and a 6-puck kevlar clutch. I am running a Haltech E6GMX to currently control 14.7lbs of boost by way of a Turbonetics T3/T4 .60/.63 stage 2 turbo blowing through a Spearco intercooler. The heads have been ported, and are fed by a custom Crower cam and lifters. The injectors are 30lbs RC. It is now undergoing a complete motor swap, brake swap, roll cage, and extensive lightening. It currently weighs 2485lbs, and I am shooting for less than 2350lbs. The new engine is capable of 8000rpm+ and over 550whp. I would like to have it back together and running for the Texas Mile in October. It is a fast car as it sits, I just want to go much faster.
Wow. You just don't see hot rod Cavaliers. But hey, it's a wagon and certainly deserves the attention.
550 wHP from a V6!!! Those poor little pistons bouncing up and down! Do you ever wonder if they'll want to escape?!?! Sounds like a mean machine! Welcome aboard!
That my friend is not just another Cavalier. Welcome to the forum and why not start a Build thread so we can all see what you have done.
Once I start the fabrication for the new motor, I will start a build thread. I am going to have to fabricate a new set of headers, cross-over pipe, down pipe and exhaust, and new intercooler piping. There are more tasks to do, but I will cover them as they come into view.
I personally would never build a big block. Why build a giant heavy slug when my tiny little light motor makes 550whp and spins to over 8000rpm? Plus, nary a big block would fit in mine wagon...
If I was doing a Cavalier wagon, I would hope it would end up looking just like yours. Love the window frame black-out. Those wheels look familiar....GM perhaps? Got an idea for you for your next project...... Chevy Celebrity / Pontiac 6000 / Olds Ciera / Buick Century wagon --- Throw out the stock motor, install a Cadillac Northstar V8 powertrain. It's been done........
I learned how to drive a stick-shift on an '83 Cavalier wagon...my uncle's; and it was my grandmother who taught me
The wheels are from a Beretta. The window frame is all stock, Cavalier RS treatment. I do not plan on building another FWD car. The limit of this car has always been the transmission and getting the power to the ground. The motor sits forward of the front wheels, and handling is affected. It has adjustable Koni shocks on it, and they are set to maximum stiffness. As it were, I would not use the Northstar. It is more expensive, and less readily able to accept a power adder than say...an LS4 FWD 5.3 GM V8. A plus is that the 5.3 makes more power than the Northstar, and I could turbocharge that 5.3 and make 600+whp with extreme ease, with an otherwise stock engine. Henceforth, those wheels on the wagon are no longer for my car. I am changing bolt patterns, and as such shall soon change the wheels.
