What's he mean by "extra-cost 3-speed manual". The 396 was already extra cost. So what did he think they could bolt behind it? The Saginaw which was standard on the weak versions? It wasn't even available for Dummies who would tear it up

I believe they also had a Heavy Duty 3-Speed available in '67. Check out all the pictures. On the Invoice it is listed as a "Special 3-Speed Transmission".

Big blocks only had them. Otherwise, GM would have been swamped with warranty claims by owners tearing up pencil-necked Saginaw toys. Krash posted the options brochure, in a similar thread

What's strange is that I always found the '66 and newer Saginaw 3-Speeds to be strong. A friend of mine is a Trans Rebuilder and he has many times stated the same thing. Now the old style 3-Speeds from '55 to '65 were weak, I'll agree there. Also the Saginaw "4-Speeds" were not the strongest (some more than others, but that's for another time), but there again I never found the Saginaw 3-Speed to be problematic.

Post Krash's info if it is readily available. I would be interested in reading it.

There weren't enough interior pics, was it column or floor-shifted? I think it looked like a column shift. And, that teal paint and interior is my favorite Chevrolet color.

The three speed Saginaw with column shift was the base transmission in those cars. ANY other trans (HD three speed, four speed, AT) was an extra cost option.

That's exactly how I see it myself.

Although I will be willing to read Krash's info when time allows.

From the 1967 dealer brochure. Read the part about Transmissions. The HD three speed was a mandatory option (nice oxymoron) with the BBC.

    OK, that solves it, lol.

It was a mandatory option, but you had to pay for it.

I see the advertiser's point though. If I had an original Build Sheet with a Special Transmission listed, I would be bragging about it too, lol.

I also see GM's point to want a HD Trans behind their Big Blocks, but myself, if I was building a BB car and only had a regular 3-Speed Saginaw handy, I would not hesitate to put it in. I just wouldn't be doing any serious racing with it.

The Saginaw three speed is certainly a capable transmission. The HD three speed manual trans this year was the Borg Warner M13. Very hard to find these days. It was replaced soon thereafter with a Muncie three speed transmission.
