https://nh.craigslist.org/pts/d/complete-1992-cadillac-allante/6611537209.html Runs and drives, very little rust. will sell for parts or restoration 123K 4.5L, not certain what it needs, if anything.
The electronics can be an issue on these, but the 92 Allante version had EFI instead of throttle body injection and made 200hp not bad for its size. They have a better record than the HT-4100's that they came from. But from what I understand if the cooling system is not maintained properly they are prone to blow head gaskets, and they are also know for leaking intake manifolds, simalure to the issues the N/A Buick 3800's have. Seeing this car seems to be for sale at a scrap yard I would bet the cooling system has not been flushed & refilled in some time. But for $900 a running Alante could be a nice project.
A former neighbor of mine from when I lived down in FL, died about 6 months ago. His ex wife offered me his Allante that had 60K miles for $2,000. I didn't want anything to do with it. They were never appealing to me.
No, it wasn't, but it was a follow-on design to the 4100 engine series, where they fixed the 4100's shortcomings. However, Jeff is right--if it sat for a while without system care, it still would lose the seal between the block, head and wet liner. All Caddy had to do was cast an aluminum dry-liner block, and things would've been a bit better.
Some parts for these were a real problem 10 years ago when I looked at them so today I'd say you are sucks out of luck. rebuild engine would far exceed value, not a Northstar
If it wasn't so tight in there, all you'd have to do is to remove the heads. Then, the liners. Once they're off and the corrosion removed, it's only to install new rubber rings. Silicone might work or even last longer. It should cost more time than anything else. With a nice color combo, it wouldn't end up bad, for that initial price
If you want a Northstar in one, I would pass on this one and look for a 1993, the last year they made them they put the 4.6 295hp version in them, actually made them fun to drive, then they stopped making them.
