Photo taken by me (why, I don't remember, but I'm glad I did, and I wish I had taken more like this) in November 1983 in Rocky River, Ohio (Cleveland suburb). I see two Oldsmobile Cutlasses in the foreground and two wagons in the background, one of which is a Chevy clamshell. The yellow one in the back right I think is a late '70s Pontiac, and the blue sedan at the far left might also be a Pontiac or a Buick? The red car with the back-up lights on looks like some foreign hatchback (note the rear-window windshield wiper)? But I'm just guessing on most of these.
Just for the fun of it, here's a google street view of the same location, photo taken August 2017, or 34 years later. That same delicatessen is still there. It was and is a Rocky River institution. The cars are different, though.
No, the backing-up car isn't an Audi, it's an Accord hatchback; the placement of the back-up lights and the shape of the rear glass marks it so. Audi rear glass is longer and more trapezoidal in shape.
Hi Jaunty, I think this photo is a year or two later than 1980. The small blue wagon next to the clamshell is a GM J car wagon, introduced for model year 1982. The far left is Pontiac Le Mans coupe. John
You're right! I wrote down the date wrong for the folder this photo is stored in. I'll go you even one better. The photo is from November 1983, not 1980. It's funny, but I should have realized the error by remembering the fact that my wife and I lived in Rocky River from May 1983 to June 1989. I was nowhere near Rocky River in 1980! I have fixed the date my the postings above.
Yellow car to the right is late 70's Buick LeSabre, far left blue car is Pontiac LeMans (or Bonneville as they were know for awhile in the early 80's), blue wagon looks to me as an A-body GM wagon (Century, LeMans, Celebrity, etc) from the early-mid 80's. I concur on the Accord hatch and the two Olds Cutlass'.
Come on people let's talk about the 74-76 Chevy wagon! The rear stainless trim is painted and no trim on the tailgate so it's a low budget car. So it must be a belair or the Canadian built Biscayne. So rare nowerdays but then just a cheap wagon
The original of that image is a 35 mm negative which I scanned at high resolution. I cropped and enlarged that image. Can't tell much more about it other than it has a manual tailgate, consistent with being a low-end Chevy. At the time of the photo, it was about a decade old, and it does look like it had been around the block a few times. The color is certainly unattractive.
