Time to thin the herd?

This is painful, but it's getting to be time to downsize the fleet. This 1990 Buick Estate Wagon would be the one to go, but I have no idea what to ask for it. Any ideas? It has ~148,000, the 307 has maybe 75,000 (it has a 1987 Cutlass 442 cam, though I can't say if it makes much of a difference). Runs great, needs muffler, cruise doesn't work. The wire hanging under the dash was a kill switch I installed behind the dash years ago after someone stole it, but now I just taped the wires together.

 

It's not bad on the inside (although, from the one photo, it looks like the headliner is falling down), but the exterior needs everything. The Old Cars Price Guide puts the value of one of these in #4 condition (runs and drives but needs pretty much complete restoration) in the $2000 to $2500 range.

$2000 - $2500 is a heck of a lot more than I would have thought.

 

Don't say things like that! You're showing your cards before you have to! Especially if you're hoping to sell it to someone who visits this site. Anyone seeing your response will assume they can offer $1000 and you'll take it.

You should be saying something like, "that's all? I would have thought it was worth 10 grand at least!"

 

Put it on a transport truck and send it to California. Apparently they're worth a lot of money there...

 

That's ok. I'm usually flexible, and if anyone were to make an then at least he/she would know that I know what it's worth. At least per the book.

Yes, that's the headliner. Over time I used the thumbtack method of rearview obstruction removal.

 

replacing head liners are not expensive, replaced my dads for about $250.00; the wood grain is a different story.

I would go closer to $1000-1500 because of the body rust. I also presume the AC doesn't work.

 

Last I knew the ac worked (I haven't tried it in a while). a few years ago I converted it to R134 and a new compressor. The dent in the fender was when I accidentally hooked the post holding the basketball hoop, but fortunately it didn't hit the car when it came down.

And patina is poplar now. Put a coat of wax over that and you could add another $1000. to the asking price.

 

I hadn't thought of that (the patina). the paint took a dive while living it's life in the driveway (no room in the inn, the garage). the only problem with the wax is that I might decide to keep it.

 

I'd like to see it waxed. Take to local car wash place and get them to wax it, it'll be worth it.

 

here it is with the washed/waxed patina. the hood will latch, i just haven't bothered to lube it up, and I have the chrome that goes across the tailgate.
