429 V8. Pics maybe? https://lancaster.craigslist.org/cto/d/1972-mercury-colony-park-wagon/6528319496.html
Pics are overrated, and with cameras scarce and the cost of film sky-high these days, it's no surprise he didn't include any.
We have pics now, and aside from the cracked dash, looks pretty darn good. https://lancaster.craigslist.org/cto/d/1972-mercury-colony-park-wagon/6528319496.html
For some reason he's not stating that it's been repainted. It's been done so why not state that? Was it a rust bucket? It looks to be in real nice shape overall.
Either that or, worse yet, a Bondo bucket or body work impaired, through chicken bucket buzz. There's even a chance that this vehicle was solid, to some degree. What stands out is the botched paint job, just above the bumper: There must be a good reason, as to why there's only a close-up of the right rear fender. But, not of the left. It doesen't need a close-up, to notice coarse imperfections, there, pointing to an attempted patching up. In the case of this wagon, it's not what he mentions that makes one suspicious. Rather, what isn't mentioned:
According to the owner, the door jams, bottoms of the doors, and everything below the woodgrain has been painted.
It might be just distortions in the photos, but there are a couple of areas that seem show what look like bubbling -- left rear quarter, leading bottom edge of right front door and trailing edge of rf fender. If it's not bubbling, then this is an amazing car at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), this is decidedly not a good time for me to consider buying another car. Otherwise I'd be hard pressed to resist the temptation to check this one out; it's one of my favorite models.
you should go for it! Heck it's not far from you; Columbia is halfway between York & Lancaster. This car would be a stunner with some elbow grease and you'd probably have the only one at any show.....
I also think this is a very sharp Colony Park especially for the price even though I'm currently a Buick wagon owner. I called the seller about it today and he seemed very nice and super picky about the car. He removed the seats and old carpet himself and painted any surface rust he found. Unfortunately he said he has 3 people already on his buyers list and he's going through them in order. Also he didn't seem crazy about doing any deal other than cash in person. So us non local buyers are out of luck.
It may be close geographically, but financially it's out of reach for me at this time. Even if that weren't the case, I have a couple of wagons higher up on my list that this would probably prevent me from obtaining, if ever managed to find them. It probably wouldn't be the only one of its kind at the ISWC show as the VP has a '72 CP he usually brings. I hope whoever buys this one joins us and brings it to our shows as well. I can't own it, but at least I could see it every year. And I'd have two to drool over.
