I'm swapping out my steering wheel for those no airbag woodgrain ones, I hate the stock one and think it looks damn ugly. Is there a write up on how to do so somewhere on this site?

It's not that simple. The column is made to accomodate the clockspring, which makes it markedly different from the earlier ones. Therefore, the chances of the wheel correctly fitting is pretty low, but the only way to know is to try it.

If I read the diaphragms right I'm sure I could adapt it somehow.

Do you have any u-pull-it yards near you? Check to see if they have an 88-91 Crown Vic, 88-90 Grand marq or 88-89 Town car and any Panther car 87 and older. Do the swap there; if it works, you have the tools and parts right in front of you, but if not, at least you'll know why before taking yours apart.

There is a pick a part near by, but it's a very very rare time when I see any 70s-80s p-body Ford's. I see maybe 1 or two every 7-8 months, but even that's not a stable time frame.

I do have a Haynes manual, maybe it has an exploded view of the steering system.
