It's funny, my childhood memories are fairly strong, but I can't find my car keys or remember what I walked into the next room for. But I am fairly sure that it was a mid-year change. And even if it wasn't, August or September is the usual MY changeover time. Babe's month of build was August '78, but is a '79 MY truck.
My 78 build date was Aug 1977 I might be old but still have a good memory especially when it comes to how I spent my money . Food for thought .
In my opinion the FORD 300 cubic inch straight six is one of the greatest engines FoMoCo ever built. Bar none.
If Ford hadn't been so stuck on the induction design on their straight sixes (with the exception of the 300), and designed them with the Holley two-stage two-barrel carb, they could've kept the 200 and 250 inline engines going, because those engines have seven main bearings, which make them more stout that comparable V-6 designs. They even could've kept them into the EFI era.
