Hey doods, Mostly daydreaming with the idea being presented in this post, I have a list that i want to check off, a list listing all the things I want to do to my wagon in terms of speed. swap in a de-smogged 460, a tko 600 (Close range), fully loaded 8.8 (3.73), trophy runner suspension. The TKO-600 gear ratios are 1) 3.27 2) 1.97 3) 1.34 4) 1.00 5) 0.68 R) 3.00 FD) 3.73 and target power for the engine is 365 HP and 500 TQ Currently my wagon has a curb weight of 4,032 lbs and gets a 0-60 time of "I'll get there once I'm 64" using stock white-walled tires and stock cloud suspension. Once all the goodies are swapped in, the estimated weight is 4,777 lbs, and that's without fluids, people, cargo, etc. What would be the estimated 0-60 with the mods? Ps, tire size is 275
There are calculators online that you can plug the numbers into. BTW, '69-'72 460s were rated at 365/500 factory; a marine engine will have heads close to the Cobra Jet ones, a CJ cam and CJ squarebore intake. All you need is the proper '69-'72 timing set to put the cam to crank the correct way. No mods needed.
Nice, whats the difference between them and the d0ve heads? oh by the way, I'm not dead set on the 460. It's a primary choice but I'm willing to put others on the table.
The marine heads are D2VE, but they are identical, just made two years newer. Now, if I were wanting to wake up the Family Truckster, I'm a Windsor Man, so with the right heads, cam, intake (I'm assuming carburetion, but I vote for SEFI) and exhaust have the potential to give you 365 horses; the Ford Racing catalog 15 years ago had carbed 351s that made 365 HP. Change the cam, 385 HP, and from a brand new engine assembly.I haven't seen what Ford's offering these days, anything complete in their catalog online is in orbit and unreachable by me. So, bear in mind, what you've listed you want to do, is very expensive, and I'm not sure how you'd handle the clutch operation. No Panther car or wagon ever had a manual trans. But there are plenty who have built up their Windsors and auto boxes for pure drag racing and coming in around 4000-4300 pounds.
I've seen a handful, mind you a very small handful, of manual swapped marquis but none had a big block. I did see a write up on some site that showed someone with a similar era crown vic swapping in a tremec, if the tko wont work out I'll build up the aod (ugh.. I'm no fan of slushboxes though...) I'm saving up a decent sized budget for this wagon, it'll be a street racer/daily. I'd be open to a built 351 for the sake of saving weight and money. I guess it'll be cheaper than a mildly worked 460, plus i wouldn't have to worry about breaking the trans with less weight. I'm willing to shove in a pretty penny for this thing, it may be illogical to do all this just for a daily, but it's stolen my heart.
ya know if I really push the pedal to the floor the 85 CP will do a quarter mile this month! and as for "0-60 time of "I'll get there once I'm 64" I'm already past 64 and think the wagon is trying to catch up/
Hot Rod mag has build ups for both the 351 and the 460 to get 500hp. Doing away with some of the expensive heads, you can easily achieve your 365hp target. Scroll down until you find the engines you are looking for: www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-0611-performance-engine-combinations/
The following big block Ford forum recommends getting an adapter kit, for matching up a 460 to a GM THD 400: http://www.460ford.com/forum/37-engine-tech/142217-turbo-400-big-block-ford.html
