1976 Oldsmobile Toronado at Mecum Chicago

    I thought this was interesting. This car, which looks pretty good, was bid to $6,000 at Mecum in Chicago today, but it did not sell as the reserve was not met ("the bid goes on").

    If you're not registered at the Mecum site, you can't see the auction results, only the cars themselves. I wonder what the seller wants for the car as $6K is really not a bad price.

    This was on ebay recently with a BIN of $15,000.

    He's nuts. As much as I'd like to think these cars can bring that kind of money, he's nuts. These cars, in tip-top condition, might get to $10,000. Might.

    I checked the Mecum site just now (Monday morning), and the car is still sitting at $6,000 with "the bid goes on." The bid hasn't gone any higher than what it was when it finished crossing the block. I can see the seller wanting a grand or two more than the $6K, and that's not terribly unreasonable. It is a beautiful car, no doubt. But with 77,000 miles on it, it is no spring chicken. $7,000 to $8,000 would be quite reasonable for it.
