Thanks for the ad.... I picked up this 1986 fors LTD Country Squire. It was a total mess and sat on a driveway for 3 years and didnt sell.It was used as a "junking" car and was pretty bad looking. After 3 months of scrubbing scraping grease ,etc.out of the interior it is finally back on the road again No power windows worked and tailgate didnt work.Everything was cheap to fix but tedious work taking everything apart.Interior is like new,no tears, etc. Down to the gas guage.Having a really hard time getting the one year only sending unit.It i separate from the fuel guage for that year. Does ANYBODY know where I can getthe float assembly? Tried Rock Auto but no luck.Ford has the number but no luck.........
Looks great!!! Can you find an entire pump assembly? Meaning float/unit/pump sock all that? How many tanks of gas have you run through it? Sometimes after sitting the contacts on the senders get gunk on them. I've seen them fixed just by running a few tanks of fresh gas.
What's the problem with the gauge? The most common problem is not the sending unit, but rather it's lacking a ground. This is especially true with a vehicle that has sat for years. Find where it attaches, clean it, and reinstall the screw holding it to the body/frame. It's the black ground wire coming off the sending unit.
Have had it on a lift and cleaned all connections. Power to gauge and it worked. When float was moved up and down it registered on the dash guage.Cleaned and put everything together and gauge stayed at empty.ugh.It is odd the float unit is separate and on other side of the tank. This is what the part looks like..........
I think that arrangement was '79:'86, but the parts were changed. Both my '83 CP and my brother's '83 CS had the sender separate from the pump hanger. I'll keep my eyes open, but perhaps changing to an aero Panther tank with integral in-tank unit, harness pigtail and piping might be a good idea?
That's a nice looking junk storage unit! Amazing how some people just give up and trash nice vehicles. By the way welcome to the forum.
LOL,thanks. Its a 1966 Shasta camper.I found that 2 blocks from the station wagon. It is totally original inside.I am going to tow the little camper with the wagon.
oh wow that sender looks toast. It's pretty rusty. Can you get to the inner working at all? Looks like the contacts are in that box on the back. Maybe some tabs? Then again there might be so much corrosion that you couldn't get it back together. Here's a long shot. Does the float float? Also the bigger issue here is that your drinking cherry coke, somebody get this feller a beer! I'm not a soda drinker but I will get a cherry coke every once in while
LMAO ! No I drink beer.lol This is at a friends garage who has a hoist. I am going crazy trying to find this part. Ford dealer called my buddy and they could not find the part. Any leads as to where I can locate this part would really be appreciated.
Hit up the junk yards, C/L, ePay, and see if the local non-Right-to-Work parts stores might have the part somewhere in the U.S. and Canada. Otherwise, you may have to take my suggestion.
