Hey all, My buddy just texted me about this car he has in his shop. It needs brake and fuel lines, and the owner wants it fixed so he can drive it for a few years. My buddy think it could be purchased right now for about $3500, or after the repairs for $4k-$5k. I can't keep it for myself, as I already have too many cars, but I would definitely think about buying it to flip it. Right now it is in danger of being snapped up by the derby crowd, and my buddies boss is already talking about buying it for the derby. He says it looks like it rolled off the assembly line with every option possible, and the only thing he can see that rusted out was the spare tire carrier, but that has already been patched. I don't know the condition of the interior, mileage, or full option list yet. My question is, "what is this car worth?" I know that is a terrible question, and that it is only worth what someone will pay, etc, etc... But, if I buy this for $4500, what real-life price could I conceivably expect to sell it for? Also, is there anyone here who is looking to buy a car like this? Thanks!
As it sits, without functioning brakes or fuel line, which I assume means that, at the moment, it's not driveable, $3,000 tops. Get it fixed and then it's $4000 to $5000. It is not a $7000 to $10,000 car.
It appears it's a pieced together wagon. It also looks to be a 76 Impala wagon unless someone swapped the header panel to round lights, and removed all the woodgrain and trim, then repainted the car. Otherwise it's a 76 Impala with a Caprice header emblem and a 75 Caprice grill. Makes me question why??????? I'd be interested in it but would need a lot more details. Also, don't let wagonkiller know you want to buy and sell it. That's not allowed according to him
Nothing yet. He's been busy and hasn't done anything yet. He did say he found out it had the woodgrain and trim removed, and was been repainted at one point. Before he starts buying parts for it, he's going to talk with me, and see what I think.
That's a shame they removed the wood grain and trim. I knew it had been repainted as the spare tire well should have black on the lower edge of the crown. Hopefully they filled all the trim holes by welding them shut instead of just bondo. They will eventually crack and fall out. Looks good now though!!!! Good Luck
Then of course there is the matter of the interior's condition (it looks like the body and mechanics have already been discussed). My hat's off to you for thinking of rescuing this from the derby crowd. Hard to say what's it worth, but considering what we know AND what we don't, I'd vote for the lower end of the survey scale for a purchase price. After it's fixed up however, you could be looking at a potentially nice flip.
Still nothing. He got swamped at work, and this is pretty low priority right now. Will definitely update with any news I get, especially if I can get some more pics from him. And I'm very curious to see what condition the interior is in.
