Hi there longroof lovers, yet another newbie from the UK. As a lifelong fan, and sometimes owner, of classic machinery in all it's forms, be it cars, bikes, tractors, heavy machines, trucks, trains, whatever, a wagon was bound to figure in the Great Plan at sometime or other. Having been building a hemi-powered slingshot for what seems like forever, which was then nearing completion, I started looking for a period push/tow car. I actually wanted a '65 Safari as these are my favourite wagons ever (I had a '65 GP in the '70's, 421 tri-power, wish i still had it) but I couldn't find a nice one for the right money so the Mopar Man in me kicked in and I bought this '65 Coronet 440 wagon instead. I bought it from a very nice couple near to Sacramento three years ago and had it shipped over, I drove it around for a short while until the 318 tendered it's resignation (not unexpected, I was told it was marginal at best) Being an original CA desert car it's totally rust free and in pretty good shape. Fast forward three years and the Coronet has taken a back seat whilst I got on with other stuff but now I'm back on the job. The 318 and original 727 has been sold on and I've got a nice 440 and newly- freshened 727 ready to drop in, also a PST front end kit that I'm just about to fit. Only other plans at the moment are to replace those Vector wheels (the jury is not only out but has gone home) with some nice Cragar's and drop it a couple of inches. Hope this meets with everyones approval! All the best, Nick.
Welcome Excalibur! I must say I am quite impressed with your wagon and the direction you are taking it. Of course I am biased, but I simply love the 64/65 Mopars. Yours looks like a solid one and should bring you much enjoyment.
Welcome aboard, Nick! Looks like a great project in the wings. I'm sure someone will buy those Vector wheels from you. I take it you're not a Duke's of Hazard fan.... That was the wheel of choice on those Chargers. Jack
Thanks for the warm welcome everybody, we've been away so apologies for not replying sooner. I love all the pre-66 Mopars, there's just something about them. Some of the early ones have the kind of looks that only a mother could love but that's part of their appeal! Jack, nothing against the Vectors, but they look best on vans IMO, and anyway I'd hate to have to paint a rebel flag on the roof and climb in and out of the windows, this alone could cause acute embarrassment if not serious personal injury! Nick.
I know that Chrysler corp was a caught a little off guard with the reaction to the 62 cars, but it is understandable. But by 64 they had transformed into some beautiful, well proportioned automobiles. As I said previously, I am biased. Do you plan to paint the car? You could always go with light blue.
That's very nice, I'm liking that a lot. I'll paint the Dodge at some point but for now I just want to get the oily bits up to scratch. It was originally a brown/beige colour but I quite like the yellow that's on it now, I think it suits it. Light blue would be good, so would light green, any of these colours would go with the beige interior. Beige CAN be useful!
