Well dang! And I'll be in El Paso in October. I could just drive it back home with me.

 

Doesn't sound good. Every state has a way of getting a replacement title if the original is lost. He should go through this process and then sell the car. Anyone can write a "bill of sale." It's no proof you had the right to sell the car in the first place.

 

You can sell cars privately all day in Texas with a bill of sale, no title requirement.

 

Well boys, it looks legit. Santa Teresa, NM is basically a "suburb" of El Paso and the "Fortune" emblem was a L-M dealer in ELP. As for the car, it has a NM plate, which means it's got a NM title, which is super easy to get, the only thing you have to do is get a vehicle inspector to come over and verify the VIN and NCIC it and then issue a bond with the paperwork for you to get a title. Costs about 200.00 to get done. I think I've bought more cars without titles here than with....heck JMT455's wagon did not even have a scrap of paperwork, but I had a title in like 2 days. They don't call us the "Manana" state for nothing. That's one thing I like about here - you can even buy a car out of a wrecking yard. You couldn't do that in other states I've lived in......

Exactly. Buy it, title it, drive home, swap the front ends and other parts I've been looking for, sell the parts I don't use, and use that money toward repairing Babe.

 

Geez we are talking scrap value here.
