I only bring this up for its very Oddness, Special order Bench Seat (supposedly ordered without the GTO Hood but I do not see that on the documentation. But if I were the car dealer I would gladly agree to put a standard Lemans hood on the car, and Promptly order a same color lemans for "Stock") Very strange vintage add on's. I really like the trunk mounted "cruise Tank" I bet that would pass tech at the local track! I am skeptical of the entire car as it is easy to clone a 64/65 GTO http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1964-pontiac-gto-3/ Antenna Mounted outside mirror is unique Sears Cruise Tank Aftermarket Cruise Control and A/C Non original duel quad engine, it must be part of the cruise control attached to the throttle linkage I see either after market or dealer installed Hazard light switch under the dash, but what is the rotorary knob to the right of it? seems to have off - 10 -20 - 30 as positions? At the moment only bid up to $6400 with 6 days remaining. I also have no Idea what the 2 toggle switches next to the lights and wiper switches are. Also has quite a few other add ones like a reel out trunk light and after market compass. Interesting time piece. I would have probably proudly drove it in the mid 70's
It shows model 2227/GTO 2 door coupe and shows W62 GTO option on the Pontiac Historic Services documentation shown in the pics along with that special order seat on the sheet. That seat on there basically seals the deal for me. I don't what else you need to know to prove it's real other than checking the VIN to the documentation. That car is just about as cool as it gets. If it had a 4 speed it would be perfect.
Sure looks like something GM would've had back then. The rest of the extra goodies looks like someone bombed the car with a J.C. Whitney gift certificate.
The car actually sold suprizingly cheap at $15,750. There was a lot of discussion about the bench seat having the incorrect seat material as they think it should have Tempest or Tempest Custom seat covers not the Lemans style covers that are on this car. I think some one got a good buy, If I was in the market I would have seriously considered it just for its oddness. Also we think the Aux Gas tank was intended for use in boats, not cars, but it is very interesting hope it found a good home.
Evidently, someone didn't like stopping at gas stations.... Back in the old days on long trips, I was going "Dang, I wish this gas tank was bigger..." These days, it's "I need to find a gas station, NOW..." (and it wasn't because the gas tank was on empty, if you know what I mean.......)
