What do you guys make of this? The interior looks legit. 50 years in a Philly garage. It's possible. I knew of some cars that were in garages for a long time when I lived back that way. You normally don't associate garage finds in a large city, but they're there..... https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/5610545199.html
The Chrome Valve covers are not original, the ad does state the wheels and tires were replaced so Krash you are correct that the wheels are not original. It looks like it could be lagit, that paint color does not hold up well to sunlight and it is just getting thin. The 1964 Penn inspection sticker sure makes it look like it didn't move for 50 years. The lower door edges and rocker panels are notorious rust spots for 59/60 Pontiac's. They look solid on this car. All that being said it is a 4-door sedan body style that is probably the least desirable made that year, and who knows what the condition of the engine or trans is. It probably has the base 389 2bbl and the ad doesn't even say if they turned the engine over by hand. $4000 isn't an unreasonable asking price, but 1/2 of that with out knowing the condition of the drivetrain, brakes, or suspension would be about all I would be willing to pay. You could easily have to but 5 or 6K into the car just to get it road worthy. And that is realisticly about all it is worth if running well. If it were a 2-door or even a 4-door HT it would be worth a bit more.
I remember when the guy who found this car posted on another forum about it with pictures. cammerjeff's analysis on price and value is pretty spot on. It's a time capsule type piece from when these cars were just another 4-5 year old used car, and it's not a particularly desirable model or well optioned one either.
I get tired of people telling everyone you should only collect two door hardtops or convertibles. I realize "nobody" wants those four door cars, but some people want them. This car was on YouTube recently, before he put those gakky wheels on it.
OK, who in this crowd actually thought that those were original wheels on this car? I wanna see some hands......
I'll take the Phocho, couldn't care less what roof or how many doors and the engine hasn't run since 64, over all condition, condition, condition is what would matter to me. Don't like the wheels, original 14" wheel caps are in the truck or......
