Can anyone point me in the direction of what period-correct floor mats truly looked like for a 1987 Caprice wagon? By this time, were they of the carpeted type? Seems every search result I come across produces after-market looking floor mats. (I miss the bowtie and GM logo'd rubber mats of the '60s and '70s lol). Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the accessory option mats would be the carpeted type and the same color as the carpeting/color-keyed.

I lucked out and found a nice front and rear set at the boneyard for my '92 OCC. I now have cheap mats covering my original carpet mats, normal car guy behavior.:D

Our old '86 Parisienne had carpeted floor mats the same color as the carpeting. I think they may have also had a small plastic "GM" in the carpeting of the floor mat somewhere (or I could be dreaming).

My '90 Custom Cruiser with the Beechwood interior has carpeted mats, the front have the GM on little square rubber tabs, the rear are blank. And I think it has two little ones in the third seat floor. They're not in because the back floors fill up with water when it rains. It goes under the carpet.

    Thanks everyone!
KevinVarnes or CustomCruiser90: Might either of you have a photo of your mats? I haven't found any carpeted ones with the GM logo. My back up plan is to go with a set of the rubber GM mats from the '70s like my clamshell had.

    1. Here's a picture of mine, both front mats are this shape. The backs are shiny black, with the grippers embedded, and a metal strip embedded in the top and bottom.

That is what our old mats looked like as well. I don't recall what the rear mats looked like, but I thought they were the same as the fronts just in a smaller rectangular shape and no GM plastic molded badge. That old Pontiac has been gone for over 20 years so no pictures from me.

Thanks Marshall! I just searched their site and found something very close, except for the GM logo. So I emailed them to inquire. ;)

No dice. Evidently the "GM" logo is not one they are authorized to use; closest I could get was the Chevy "bowtie". The search continues!

You're welcome, Glide-Away, and I have to correct myself, the backs of the front mats have the metal stripping embedded in the portion below where they slant up past the part that lays flat. The strip is one continuous piece, shaped according to the edges of the mat.

I highly doubt you will find anyone that makes exact replicas of these mats. Your best bet is to find some NOS mats. You might want to check with someone that deals with obsolete GM parts. Unfortunately I don't know any off the top of my head. Someone else may be able to chime in.

Thanks again Kevin. I searched obsolete GM parts which took me to Rock Auto. They have the right color and fit for my particular wagon so I bought them. Still couldn't find any with the "GM" logo though. They arrived this morning. :) Only draw back is now these fresh mats make me want to refresh the carpeting ($$) lol.
