I was searching for a new 60's van or wagon project and a friend told me his dad had an old one behind his house and was willing to sell it. I went and talked to him and ended up getting it very reasonable but it did not have a title. I still agreed to getting it and I was searching through the glove box to snoop at its history. I knew the name of the PO on the paperwork. They were church friends of my mother's back in the 70's and 80's. I posted some pics on FB and tagged their son in the photo. He responded saying he HAS the original title and I am picking it up Tuesday! What are the chances? This car will be delivered later this week. I can't wait to probe my old friend for info on the car!
Welcome. I sure like your car. I'm looking forward to seeing more about this car and hearing it's history.
Welcome............. I like your introduction. Strange things do happen. We moved to Florida and I was still in mail contact with a friend who used to live 50 miles from us in Illinois. He had moved further south in Florida years before and we've visited sense. Fast forward a few years and I bought an old panel truck that I wanted to put a Camaro subframe under. Saw an ad for a 1980 Camaro without engine or tranny only a few miles away. Bought it drug it home, and did the glove box thing. Found all the paper work plus things showing the last owner was a yong girl in Tampa. That explained the girlie things inside and on the windows. Even stranger, found the original manuals and shop records. It had once come from Bloomington,Ill and belonged to my car friend now in Florida. Called him. He asked how it was running. Being perfectly honest I told him the engine is missing!---------------"Yea that's why I sold it. It had a bad miss." So what are the odds in these events?
Small world! So, I was wrong about the model, it's actually a 1965 Ford Ranch Wagon with a 352 engine and a Cruise-a-Matic tranny.
Ten years? How's the inside and the floors? Must be manual windows. My favorite kind. My new Impala has plastic automatic window buttons. Those suckers should last a long time! Maybe till the warrantee runs out.
There is a huge hole in the passenger rear that I will replace. It hasn't arrived at my house yet. It appears to be pretty solid but I am expecting surprises.
Congrats on the purchase! And welcome! Great looking wagon. Looking forward to seeing the details and surprises. Please keep us updated!
at this point, should I start a build thread or just continue? I met with the son of the OG owner and got the title. He told me that he did not remember why the car was parked, but his dad had a complete engine rebuild shortly before. The engine is covered in so many pears and sticks that you cant even see it, other than the air cleaner. I hope there is a gem under that debris! I also found a note in the service records stating the mileage of the overhaul! As soon as the car gets here, ill check the odometer and see how many miles is on the rebuild.
