Hello everybody, I have a 68 Country Squire. I recently dropped the Tank, It has never leaked Technically but it looks like it was repaired in the past. It also appears to have been coated internally by a previous owner, not fully and it appears to be peeling. So as a guy on a Budget what are my best options, I'm not in a huge rush, I believe Tanks from Full size 65-68 Fords and Mercs will interchange? I read about places like Renu and Moyers, I really hate investing $300 + into a used tank. On my tank I planned on using Master Series silver( I love the stuff) on the outside ,but I'm not sure what to do on the inside as far as the failed coating ? So I guess my questions are: It appears new ones are not available ,Has anyone heard other wise? Has anyone come up with an aftermarket plastic tank or fuel cell that will fit and work in the quarter panel ? I'm not building a show car . So basically I wanted to see what others are doing or have done, weighing my options.......... Thanks for any and all input.
If it were me, I'd look for a replacement tank. If you haven't used SearchTempest, give that a try. It reaches every Craigslist all over the country and eBay. Their may be a tank out there just out of your area, waiting for your call.
Same problem with my wagon and a VW bus I restored. Had a radiator shop clean and line with no problems. Some radiator shops will do this.
You might also try Auto City Classic for a new tank, or they may have something you could adapt. http://www.autocityclassic.com/ 1-800-828-2212 orders / 763-444-5880 inquires.
Thanks for the replies so far. I've tried them, basically Auto city no good. Radiator shop, etc. Spendy I could afford it but I can't in good conscience spend $500 on getting a used tank that hasn't leaked yet, fixed. When the weather gets warmer I'm going to take a good hard look at my tank and clean/coat it the best that I can,in the meantime I'll keep my eyes open,If anyone has any other ideas,They would be greatly appreciated.
