I haven't seen one of these in years, dated a girl in the late 70's that drove the snot out of a 72 with a manual trans. She sure was fun. Not a bad looking example. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/5130486433.html
Strange you mention that! There was this HOT girl in my high school, one grade ahead of me, that drove a yellow '73 Manta. The German GM styling was very crisp and clean. These, the Opel GT, and even the Kadett were all attractive cars, and had good power for their size. I'd like to find a nice Manta or a GT. It's a shame this one has an automatic! I'd be interested in this one if it had the standard trans.
A late friend of mine had one in black. He treated it like a red-headed b@stard stepchild! He'd take us to back trails in it, jumping it and generally beating the Hell out of it. But the funniest thing about it: We were heading to downtown Bremerton to go see "Rocky Picture Show, and had to stop, because the car developed a big shake. Found three of the torque-tube bolts were gone, and the fourth was worked halfway out. Apparently, this was a chronic problem because John had the tool at the ready in the trunk. As he was tightening the bolt, I spied a Manta across the street for sale, so I told John; he ran across the street and "borrowed" one screw out of its torque tube to help secure his! Ah, the vagaries of spending a misbegotten youth!
These Opels were great cars! I had a silver with red int '69 GT with the ultra rare 1.1L engine.....they only imported just over 400 with that engine. My sister had a '72 1900(Manta) coupe, white, red interior and 4 speed.
>>>> Its has been ages since I seen one of these. That thing is SCREAMIN for a V8 or a GNX Turbo'd 3.8L...!
I remember those cars too. But I don't know anything about girls. I was dating my future wife and never looked at other females! And that's the truth.
