Just bought this 1966 pontiac tempest wagon that is a true survivor!
Problem is, people keep asking how much I want for it.
Whether I go to a gas station, ice cream place, or just in my driveway people stop and ask.
Never had one before, usually had a rust bucket pickup that I reworked to be a cool cruiser.

Wife likes it as is but.....

    Advice please!!

Tell 'em you just bought it and put a stupidly high price on it that would easily get you something else you really like/want plus money in the bank. That usually gets most people to stop asking vs bugging you to sell it .

Every time someone asks, just chuckle, thank them for their offer, then tell them if you sold it, your wife and kids would hang you out to dry. Problem solved.

It's all part of driving or having a old car or specialty vehicle. Most are just curious because hang a price tag on it and watch how many reach for their wallet. You will see that less than half the inquires are genuine.Only you know if you should sell or keep it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Great Looking Tempest! I assume it is a 326 2bbl? They did not make many mid sized Pontiac wagons in the 60's, the full size wagons out sold them at least 4 to 1. I personally would keep it. But only you can make that decision. Good Luck with it either way! Hope to see more of it soon!

If you like the car, keep it.

i have already had this conversation about my 59 with my daughter and she was very unhappy about selling it as we have driven this car on many local within fl trips and even a few up to atlanta. right now there are few memories so it is easier to say sell . ask a high price and if you get a great offer sell it and find a nicer one

I'd say, "What are you offering?" Then worry about what to do.

Unless someone has a wad of bills ready to go, most questions asking if it is for sale are merely questions and nothing more. Quote whatever ridiculous price you want.

If it is what you like, keep it. Nice cars are getting hard to find.

Be careful.........I'll share a tale with you..........I had built a 56 Studebaker President 2 door wagon into a nice little hot rod, and we had driven it all over the Southwest. It got lots of attention everywhere we went, 'cuz most people had to even ask what it was.......one day, we're on our way to a show in Nevada, and as we are waiting for breakfast at a restaurant, my wife asks how much would I sell the car for......she actually asked how long we owned it (10 years), and how long it's been on the road (5 years) and isn't it time for it to find a new owner (NO!), but I didn't want to ruin the whole weekend, so I threw a number at her that I thought no one would ever pay. End of story.......I thought. Sunday morning, awards are over, every one is loading up and heading home. I'm helping my B-I-L load his 40 Ford Coupe in his trailer, and my wife calls me over and says a guy has questions about the wagon. No problem, happens all the time. He asked about the Mustang II r&P (installed before there were kits, it was a red M II donor), he asked about the 350 engine, and the 700R4, and the 8 inch Ford 3:55 rear end, and the specialty power windows, and the Vintage air, and the 84 Monte Carlo power bench seat. The questions just kept coming, and he said he'd seen our car at this show for a couple of years and liked it. I thanked him and thought we were done.........NOT! He then says, your wife says you'll take XX,XXX dollars for it. I said yes, but not a penny less...........and his response was........."I'll take it". Dang, I miss that car.......be careful out there!

Moral of the story - once you set your 'if a fool comes by with cash' price, always add a few thou for the inconvenience of selling it.......

Posted it on North Jersey Craigslist for $5600 and received a couple of very interested responses already.

Took all of your advice, including the wife stuff!

    We shall see what happens!
