Here in Washington, we also have mandatory insurance. But the state knew, when they passed the law in '88, that there would be drivers who either couldn't or wouldn't obtain insurance, so every 'no proof of coverage' ticket made up to $475 right off the bat. It's gone up since then, but no one seems to want to try cutting off the revenue stream.

A $125 ticket in Los Angeles County will cost you $4,000 by the time the state and local "fees" are applied.

Well, I finally got hold of someone about the homeowner's policy coverage. In OK, any claim over $1,000 in a year, automatically raises the premium next year. Of course, they won't reveal HOW much it goes up until renewal time. With a $1,500 deductible, that would've left me just a $1,500 payout, which around here, buys half a trailer that is not junk. So, between the pitiful payout and the guaranteed premium increase, I told them to pretend I never called, as I only asked a question about a potential claim.

    F**kin' crooks win again.

Is that automatic raise an OK law, or just policy there in OK?

Their policy in OK. We do get apocalypse-size hail and EF-OMG! tornadoes here. That's why we pay the second-highest insurance premiums per $100K valuation in the US.

We're forced to carry insurance and there are very few companies even close to reasonable. So they can raise the premeums and charge more after claims because they can!

Most days on my monitor I see claims that there are tricks that insurance companies don't want us to know about to save big money. Yea right!

Called the cops today to follow up...big surprise...nothing. The insurance crooks were useless as tits on a 2x4. And of course, the jerkwads that took my trailer are either enjoying the crap out of the fruits of their "labor" and/or have sold it out-of-state to an unsuspecting buyer, or fenced the trailer in Mexico.

    People piss me off.

No luck yet. I've expanded my Craigslist search for it into four other states over the past few days. I can only hope, I guess. We'll see. Meanwhile, hopefully the guy who stole it or has it experiences great tragedy and pain. A fiery wreck would be a nice way for Karma to strike back at him. You know, one where he survives, but painfully burned to the texture of crispy bacon...something along those lines would make me smile.

Over the top there? Maybe. Thieves and liars are among the lowest of the low, and deserve no quarter and no consideration, in my eyes.

    Whaaaaaaaaaaaa !

Way to go patrick. Let it out.:mad:
I've never had anything stolen until about five years ago. Had some creaps living in our home with my son while we were on summer vacation. Not only did they trash the place they stole way more than we'll ever know.
Rode my new riding mower 10 miles to town down the bike trail with my little red wagon behind and tried to pawn it then sell at a car lot.
No one wanted a stolen mower so they burned it on the bike trail. I ended up paying the towing and storage on my own stolen burned mower!:slap: Besides it's illegal to ride a gas powered vehicle on the bike trail or start a fire.
We had the scum arrested but since we wouldn't press charges on our son they let the trash out.
Thinking back, should have let him and the others rot in jail!
Some people get robbed repeatedly. Sadly even if they get caught nothing much happens.
The real clincher is if they find your trailer the next innocent owner will suffer. A title and licensce around here on a "home made" trailer is easy to get.

Numbers are stamped in several places, and they are pretty deep. They'd have to do a LOT of grinding to make any headway, plus they'd have to know where all of them are stamped.

I've told my sons that if they ever steal from me, I'd file charges in a heartbeat. I do not suspect them, of course; but I do suspect a couple of their low-life buddies. No proof yet.

One month after it was taken from my yard, and I'm nowhere close to finding it. I really have a feeling that one of two things happened to it:

    1) It's sitting in someone's backyard or shop fairly close-by (w/in 100 miles), waiting for me to forget about it and pull my CL ads in five states before using it, or...

    2) It's in Mexico, where paperwork for stolen trailers is easy to get and make it a "legal" registration there. They do NOT check the US NCIC hotsheets there...gee, I wonder why?

    Still, it pisses me off.

Patrick, I feel very bad about your loss. I know I'd be pissed if someone stole my trailer from my yard.
Where are you located? Are you close to Mexico?
I'm less than 50 miles from the border. When the punk stole my Tahoe, if he hadn't stopped to get something to eat, it would have been across the border. Still. he did significant damage to the door and column.
I have friends who are in the construction business who have construction equipment (backhoes, graders, etc) stolen from job sites, and that stuff is across the border in an hour, never to be seen again.
Good luck, be vigilant, I hope you find it.

Thanks for the kind words. I still get really pissed off at times about the theft. And the Mexican authorities couldn't care less about the rampant theft of US vehicles and goods that cross South. More money for their corrupt, pathetic system.

Straight down I-35 is the border crossing at Laredo, 621 miles away. A quick eight hour run, ten with traffic.

One of my family members had this happen on fourth of July. They were gone from their house between 1 & 3PM and the trailer was parked behind the house and locked up. Broad daylight and it was gone (and still is). No way it was a random thing, it was someone who knew it was there and was waiting. The police and authorities really don't care, victimless crime.

Working insurance claims in Southern California for 30+ years, I can only remember ONE of my theft claims being actually found down in Mexico and returned. Happens, but not very often. I'd say chances on a trailer like yours are even less.

I think your scenario #1 is more likely though, Patrick. I'd do a little snooping...
