I need to update my original am radio in the 63 Buick. For everyone who has done this what type/brands would you recommend. I want a repro type that will fit with no cutting. All I need is a radio that has an auxiliary input for my phone so I can use pandora. Thinking about this one right now usa-230 http://www.classiccarstereos.com/category/1961-1967-Buick-LeSabre-Radio.html

    Consider This

I know nothing about radios. But my son was at the U-Pull-It yard for parts when he spotted a few late model replacement radios in cars. He got one for his truck for around $25 or maybe less with a 30 day waurantee.
    Might be an idea.

    DON'T DO CUSTOM AUTO SOUND!
Get a Retro Sound 2. It will do anything you want, i-phone, i-pad and all that other stuff. the tuning knobs are separate to the unit, and you attach as needed for your application. I just installed one in my 56 Chevy last weekend. Looks great in my dash.

I agree. I don't have first hand experience with Custom Auto Sound, but I know people who have had issues with quality. I went with Retro Sound, and have had great luck. The head unit I purchased has Aux input and pre-amp output.

I suspended a Clarion CD unit (with an audio input) underdash. Nothing was modified, and I still have the use of the AM radio in my '73 Ford.

I would like to do something like this to keep my dash original and maybe put another unit in the glove box . Just an idea all I need is an auxiliary input for my phone.

this is exactly what i had for years. the custom autosound in the dash and a sony with remote control in the glovebox ,it worked great but in these big cars it is tough to always have to look at the glove box to change something . thats what made me get the retrosound ,it's in the dash and i can keep gloves in my glove box just to keep model t happy:banana::rofl2:

Ditto Retrosound. Used 3 of their units so far in vintage cars and like them all.

Custom Autosound is junk in my experience.

I can't remember ever keeping gloves in a glove box. However my wife has everything imaginable in most of ours and I can't find the registrations when I need them!:mad:
