    Hello all!
I say I'm "sort of" new because I did register here a few months ago but have apparently forgotten my username and/or password because I could not log in. So, I've re-registered and here I am.

I've been a station wagon lover since high school when I traded my first car, a 1940 Buick, that I didn't have enough money or expertise to get on the road, for a 1967 Chrysler Newport wagon that my Dad had. I laid down the rear seats, put in some groovy shag carpet and side window curtains that my Mom helped me with. It was eventually dubbed the "Sin Bin" by one of the local coppers who stopped me one night.

The Sin Bin carried me through high school and first year of college, until I traded up to a 1968 Plymouth Fury that I had for the next two years. It, too, gained a nickname from my rodeo team buddies who called it the "Alligator" because of the Olive Green body color and sun-checkered vinyl woodgrain siding.

My next wagon was a gold-colored 1972 Chrysler Town & Country with perfect woodgrain, white leather seats, and a 40 gallon auxiliary fuel tank that the previous owner had installed in the rear where the rear seat was removed. It also had a screaming 440cid engine that could suck all that fuel, in a hurry, if I got on it! That wagon carried me through the rest of my college time and to my first "real" job in Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Since that time, I've had an '82 Granada and a couple of Chevy Suburbans which are kind of like wagons, only bigger.

Now, I have a 1964 Comet wagon that I've shaved most of the trim and rack and installed a 302cid from a Mustang, disc brakes and a automatic shifter on the floor. My son and and I have been working on it several years and we think it will be on the road within 3 months. I'm going to try to upload some pictures but don't know how that will turn out! Later......

Welcome Johnny. Glad you figured out who you are. Out of all of those cars I'd love to have the old Buick.

    :Welcome: Johnny!
The Comet looks like a cool project. I'm getting to see Moon discs more and more these days.

Thanks, Longroof. I've always liked the full moons on the older rat rods but wasn't sure about on the Merc. However, the tight-ass Scotsman came out in me when I started pricing wheels so I went for the moons and have been pleasantly surprised. What really surprised me was my son's reaction when he saw them and loved 'em!

Hi JohnnyMac...that happens to be my bosses name too. :p Are you sure you don't live in NS, Canada?

Nice intro, how old is your son? Is he into wagons too or does he like the working on cars period?

    :Welcome: to SWF again.

Fannie, my son is 27 and he just likes old cars and enjoys tinkering around with them. He's the type that, when he was a kid, would rather tear apart and re-build and customize his bicycle that play video games. When I told him that I wanted to replace the stock AM radio with a modern system, he about had a cow and described how cool the original one is! So now, as a compromise of sorts, he's going to modify the under dash A/C unit to install an mp3 player. We'll see how that works out.....

And to you wise guys making cracks about how the Arizona sun fries our brains, well...okay, you got me..... :yup:

Oh, I was thinking he was more like 7...:p That's great that he likes the original look and he can up date your sound system thought compromising the look of your wagon, (y)

He's an "old soul" trapped in a youngster's body. He was medically retired from the military and has been going through some rough stuff from his experience overseas. I think that working on the car has been pretty therapeutic for him and gets his mind off of stuff. We were always close but sort of drifted off. This car has been a big help getting us back together. Of course, his Mom's Mexican food that she makes when he comes over has been a plus and may be the REAL reason that he comes over!!

Our youngest, the only one of four kids who came with us to Florida, is also a car guy. He was under five at the time I retired and moved and we figured he couldn't live alone!
He's now 25 going on 5. Oddly he is very good when it comes to mechanical and electronics. He's rewired maybe two dozen cars, for me and others. Some restored original wiring, others modern kits. He can rip out the old and have the new in over a weekend if he wants to. Lately he don't want to.
He tore my late model Dodge truck down six months ago. Now it's 50 miles away where he used to work, still not fixed!
But he had time to swap his 85 Chevy truck 350 with carb to a 93 TBI and five speed! Still we help him out. We adopted him, our first grandson, so still feel like it's our job to help him out.
Working with kids on cars is still a great way to bond.
Glad you are active here again.
