I saw the PBS show Wagonmasters, started Googling and found this site. I have a 72 Coronet SW with 332,000 miles. 318 2bbl/A904 TorqueFlight. Nicknamed the War Wagon. It's unrestored with original paint. Been in the family since my Dad bought it from the dealer with 7,000 miles. It was the dealer's personal car. Confirmed years later by decoding the fender tag which indicates 'Chrysler lease to dealer salesman'. Whether or not it's true, I like to think that because the assembly plant knew it was going to a dealer for personal use, they made sure it was right. Hit a deer while going 60 mph in the early 80's. Minor damage to grill which I didn't repair. I'm glad to find this forum. Hauling the '48 Cub to a tractor pull, Sept 2006. At the Lynch Road assembly plant in Detroit, Summer 2014.
Welcome! Great story! Very cool to see a wagon with sentimental value. Seems like a bright color for a wagon. I wonder how many were made in that color?
Great wagon. Welcome aboard. Looks like "Petty Blue" although I doubt Dodge called it that in '72. Plymouth called it "Basin Street Blue". It was a non-metallic color and was more frequently seen on performance models like Chargers, Road Runners Dusters, Cudas and Challengers. But when I was a kid, my neighbors had a new 72 Valiant 4 door sedan in that color ( I think the paint code was B-3 in '72).
Bright Blue was what Plymouth called their B5 blue. Dodge called it True Blue Metallic in Canada. We had it on our 72 Dart. That enamel blue was on a sedan in the 72 Dart brochure. A great car, and a great colour. . Welcome to what we nuts affectionately call Home.
Hi, Welcome. Nice to see a 1970s car with over 300k miles, and that's the first one of that color I've seen.
Paint code B3 which I think is 'Blue Streak' (Dodge), or 'Basin Street Blue' (Plymouth). Paint has held up well for being garaged for a total of 6 years out of 43. Not from proper care - I basically ignored the finish for the last 10 years, but recently compounded it with a DA buffer. Thanks for the welcome.
I remember when my buddy got pulled over by an undercover trooper on I-4 on the way to Disney. The trooper was in a wagon slightly newer than yours. While my friend was getting his speeding ticket we talked about his police wagon. He said it was a special order with a 440 and that it was a good thing we didn't try to drive off. The trooper never popped the hood but I do recall how fast he came up behind the Firebird my friend was driving. Of course even to this day I do not let him forget how he got a speeding ticket from a trooper in a wagon. Priceless. Too bad it was before cell phones or there would be great pics to show. Any how, you have a great looking wagon. Thanks for sharing the pics.
